Cosel Co., Ltd. announced today the addition of a 6W strong isolation DC/DC converter to its series of converters, which are primarily used in medical, industrial and ICT applications. The converters are packaged in a single in-line (SIP) 8-type package with 3kVAC/4.2kVDC reinforced insulation, meeting medical isolation standards (2MOOP (250VAC)), and are ruggedized for industrial applications with input/output voltage differentials. Three input voltages (4.5V-18V; 9V-36V and 18V-76V), with single output (MHFS6) and dual output (MHFW6) options, are widely applicable. Built for performance, the MH6 has a maximum insulation capacitance of only 20pF, which reduces noise transmission. The Cosel MH has a unique design, is manufactured in Japan, and has a 5-year warranty.
Pursuing the design concept of high reliability, the COSEL MH6 series has reinforced insulation, 3kVAC and 4.2kVAC insulation tests have been carried out according to safety standards, and its transformer is designed to withstand the voltage difference that may occur in industrial applications. With long-term experience in power supply design for IGBT drive equipment, COSEL designers applied the best practices of high-power strong isolation to this low-power 6W MH6 series to reduce the isolation fatigue caused by the differential high voltage that occurs in motor control or IGBT drive. COSEL has tested and verified it, and provides the expected life curve in the application manual to help system architects develop gate controllers for industrial equipment with the correct design rules and considerations.
For medical applications, the MH6 series meets the 2MOOP (250VAC) (Means of Operator Protection) isolation requirements specified in the 3rd edition of the IEC60601-1 standard.
In order to avoid large inventory and to facilitate installation and maintenance, system designers require the input voltage range of the DC/DC converter to be as wide as possible. Based on the above requirements, the COSEL MH6 series provides three wide input voltages: 4.5V to 18V (covering 12V battery applications), 9V to 36V (including 12V and 24V battery systems), and 18V to 76V (for 24V and 48V systems). The MH6 series has five single-output voltage models: 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V (MHFS6) and two dual-output voltage models: +/-12V and +/-15V (MHFW6). The dual-output type can be used in series to provide 24V or 30V output. The single-output MHFS6 can adjust the output voltage by using the "Vout Trim pin" on the secondary side.
MH6 Series Built-in overcurrent protection circuit with automatic recovery function. Standard products have a negative logic remote control pin (L: open, H: close).
The MH6 series can operate in an ambient temperature range of -40 to +85°C and a relative humidity range of 20% to 95% (non-condensing). Depending on cooling, power derating applies to measurement point temperatures up to +105°C.
To reduce transmission noise, COSEL R&D personnel reduced the isolation capacitance to the lowest possible level, with a maximum capacitance of only 20pF, which is a huge advantage when powering motor control systems.
In some cases, industrial equipment and medical devices are subject to vibrations that may damage SIP pin products. To avoid pin damage, the Cosel MH6 series pins are cast with epoxy resin, which strengthens the connection between the PCB board and the module, making the device more reliable when used in demanding applications. The MH6 series has passed vibration tests: 10-55Hz 98.0m/s2 (10G), 3 minutes per cycle, 60 minutes each along the X, Y, and Z axes; Vibration test:
490.3m/s2 (50G) 11ms, once along the X, Y, and Z axes.
For medical and industrial applications, the MH6 series is approved by the following certification bodies: UL62368-1, EN62368-1, c-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.62368-1), ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, 3rd edition EN60601-1, c-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.60601-1).
To reduce users’ board space, the MH6 series uses a SIP8 package with package dimensions of 26.0 × 12.0 × 9.5 mm [1.03 × 0.48 × 0.38 in.] (W × H × D) and a maximum weight of 8 grams.
The MH6 Series power modules are RoHS compliant and CE marked according to the Low Voltage Directive.
