Powerbox, one of Europe's largest power supply companies, has been a leading force in optimizing power solutions for demanding applications for more than four decades. Today, Powerbox announced the release of a new 700W power supply, OFI700A, for industrial applications. OFI700A is optimized for conduction cooling and can operate efficiently over a baseplate temperature range of -40°C to +95°C without the need for fans for cooling. It has a universal input voltage of 85 to 264VAC, with power factor correction (PFC), and can provide a DC output of 12V, 28V (adjustable to 24V) or 48V, and also provides a 12V auxiliary output power supply.
In many industrial applications, the cooling of heat-dissipating components relies on the use of fans and blowers, but in some applications, active ventilation is not possible or even allowed. In harsh environments or in applications that require a high level of reliability, the use of fans and blowers is not allowed and all possible risks of failure must be eliminated. For the comfort and health of employees, there is an increasing demand for equipment installed in monitoring rooms or offices that is not allowed or needs to limit the amount of noise it produces, such as the sealed boxes required for laser cutting.
Conduction cooling requires very specific layout practices. The PRBX OFI700A is designed to ensure optimal heat transfer from the heat sink to the baseplate, providing high levels of efficiency over a baseplate temperature range of -40°C to +95°C. Depending on the assembly method and overall cooling conditions, derating may occur as specified in the technical documentation.
To cover a wide range of application requirements, the OFI700A has a universal input voltage range of 85 to 264VAC. The power supply includes a power factor correction circuit with a coefficient of 0.95/0.92 (110VAC/230VAC). For applications using DC power supply (such as mining equipment), the OFI700A has a DC operating voltage of 120V to 350V.
OFI700A is available in three different single output DC voltage models, 12V/58.4A, 28V/25A and 48V/14.6A. The output voltage can be adjusted using the provided potentiometer. For example, the 28V output can be adjusted to 22.4V to 33.6V, covering applications with a 24V output voltage. An auxiliary output of 12V/0.1A is also provided.
For applications that require 1+1 redundancy, the OFI700A can be used in parallel, requiring an external diode protection device. Adding an external diode is the simplest solution for redundant use, but it increases power losses, which depend on the output current and can reach up to 30W. Therefore, in order to maintain high efficiency when operating in redundant mode, the 700A version "O Selection" has a high-performance FET technology ORing circuit that can be deployed. In this version, the power loss is limited to less than 1.5W.
For safety reasons, the input/output isolation voltage of OFI700A is 3000VAC, the input/ground isolation voltage is 2000VAC. The output to ground isolation voltage is 500VAC. The power supply has over-current protection self-recovery function, over-voltage and over-heat protection.
Auxiliary functions can be easily accessed through the connectors on the OFI700A version, namely: Remote Control, Output Voltage Sense, DC-OK, Inverter Operation Mode (IOG) and Auxiliary 12V.
OFI700A has passed the shock and vibration tests specified in MIL-STD-810H. In this regard, the product is tested to a level far higher than normal operating conditions, 20G higher than the vibration level during transportation.
The OFI700A has an open frame size of 126 x 38 x 250mm (4.96 x 1.5 x 9.84 inches) and a maximum weight of 0.95kg. A metal housing is available, adding only 2mm of height and 150g of weight (Option N).
OFI700A is certified to UL62368-1, C-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.62368-1) and EN62368-1.
The OFI700A series comes with a three-year warranty and complies with European RoHS, REACH and Low Voltage Directives, carrying UL, CE and UKCA marks.
