Google Nexus 4 and Nokia Lumia 920 both support wireless charging, but Apple, which has always been a technology leader, unexpectedly fell behind. But what makes many Apple fans cheer is that the latest patent documents show that Apple has already focused on more mature wireless charging technology.
AppleInsider recently exposed Apple's latest "wireless charging" technology patent. Unlike the existing contact charging of wireless charging (existing wireless charging requires the mobile phone device to be placed on a wireless charging base), Apple will achieve true wireless charging.
The new patent shows that Apple's wireless charging will use "near-field magnetic resonance" technology to establish a charging area with an effective range of 1 meter. Any Apple device that supports this technology can be wirelessly charged as long as it is placed in this area without any connecting wires or power plugs.
According to reports, Apple began applying for this patent as early as November 2010, and the US Patent and Trademark Office has recently approved it with the file number US20120303980.
Compared with existing wireless charging, air charging is simply awesome, and if nothing unexpected happens, this new technology will be used in Apple's new products in the future.
