  • New application software enables FieldFox handheld analyzers to have a built-in signal generator up to 54 GHz

  • Generates pulse signals including FM chirp, FM triangle wave, AM pulse and custom sequences, as well as CW signals with various analog modulations and user-defined pulse sequences

  • This popular feature supports a variety of uses, including air traffic control radar testing, simulating automotive radar testing, and performing RF leakage checks.

Keysight Technologies, Inc. has expanded its FieldFox product line of handheld radio frequency (RF) analyzers with an application software update to include pulse generators. The downloadable 357 Pulse Generator option for B-Series and C-Series FieldFox handheld analyzers provides field engineers with a variety of pulse type signals at frequencies up to 54 GHz.

Field engineers need to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on RF, microwave, and millimeter wave (mmWave) systems. In the course of their work, they need to test various devices and systems using data signals generated by pulse generators to ensure that they are working properly. Traditionally, in order to generate the various pulse types required for field testing, engineers need multiple expensive pulse generators that may not be designed for field use.

Keysight FieldFox Option 357 Signal Generator Software meets this need by enabling engineers to quickly upgrade existing B-Series and C-Series FieldFox handheld analyzers to meet their specific test needs. For field engineers, taking full advantage of this unique handheld analyzer with a built-in pulse generator requires only a software license key and firmware upgrade.

The new Option 357 Signal Generator Application Software offers the following benefits:

  • Broad carrier frequency coverage—operates up to 54 GHz, depending on the FieldFox model used.

  • A wide range of pulse types - including standard pulse, FM chirp, FM triangle wave, AM pulse and user-definable pulse trains. In addition, it is possible to create continuous wave (CW) signals containing AM/FM modulation, including frequency shift keying (FSK) and binary phase shift keying (BPSK).

  • Easy-to-read interface – displays key parameters of generated signals in both numerical and graphical formats.

  • Multiple Field Uses – Supports a variety of applications, including live radar testing for air traffic control, simulating automotive radar testing, performing on-site EMI leakage checks, and testing propagation losses for mobile networks.

  • Maximize field instrument investments – Enables engineers to quickly add pulse generation capabilities to existing FieldFox handheld analyzers, saving time and money.

"When engineers are working in the field, they need flexible solutions that can quickly adapt to rapidly changing requirements," said Vince Nguyen, vice president and general manager of Keysight's Aerospace, Defense and Government Solutions business unit . "With the FieldFox Option 357 Pulse Generator Application, Keysight is delivering a long-awaited capability for high-intensity field applications in the aerospace, automotive and telecommunications industries. As a handheld analyzer with a built-in pulse generator covering frequencies up to 54 GHz, FieldFox maximizes the value of field instrument investments with a software-defined platform that is easily configured via a software license key."
