Digital multimeters have ohmmeters like pointer multimeters, but due to the different measurement principles, the ohmmeter of a digital multimeter cannot determine the positive and negative poles. However, a digital multimeter has a diode measurement range that can be used to determine the polarity of a diode. The figure shows how to use a digital multimeter to determine the polarity of a diode.
Figure 1. Using a digital multimeter to determine the polarity of a diode
(a) No conduction; (b) Conduction
When testing and judging, the digital multimeter is set to the special position marked with the diode symbol, and then the red and black test pens are connected to the two poles of the diode respectively, and the positive and negative poles are measured once. During the measurement, "1" will be displayed once, as shown in Figure (a), and the numbers 100~800 will be displayed another time, as shown in Figure (b). The measurement that displays the numbers 100~800 shall prevail. The red test pen is connected to the positive pole of the diode, and the black test pen is connected to the negative pole of the diode. In the figure, the display "1" means that the diode is not conducting, and the display 566 means that the diode is conducting, and the current conduction voltage of the diode is 566mv (ie 0.566v).
