Keysight Technologies and Samsung Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Jointly Advance 6G Technology Research and Development

Powerful alliance accelerates the development of artificial intelligence air interface

Beijing, February 21, 2022 - Keysight Technologies, a provider of advanced design and verification solutions to accelerate innovation and create a secure and connected world, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samsung Research Institute to jointly advance the research and development of 6G technology, the next generation of wireless communications.

Samsung has been at the forefront of providing end-to-end solutions for previous generations of wireless infrastructure and mobile devices. Keysight and Samsung are working together to support Samsung's vision of 6G for a hyperconnected world. 6G is expected to become a reality based on the solid foundation laid by technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), sensing, digital twins, time-sensitive networking (TSN) and holographic communications. The two companies will work together to jointly develop test and verification technologies for 6G wireless systems.

"Keysight and Samsung have achieved several important milestones in their collaboration to mature 5G New Radio (NR) into a mature technology, and we are excited to expand our collaboration," said Giampaolo Tardioli, vice president of Keysight's Network Infrastructure Group. "6G will leverage heterogeneous networks and the convergence of communications and computing to power the fabric of wireless connectivity. Our 6G partnership with Samsung will enable us to optimize our software-driven test solutions, which will be critical to developing differentiated 6G products."

The collaboration will advance the development of an AI air interface that leverages MIMO technology to support the deployment of ultra-dense, energy-efficient networks capable of ultra-low latency and terabit data wireless transmission.

"This MOU will greatly advance Samsung's 6G strategy of combining the company's expertise in communications technology with its software and AI capabilities," said Sunghyun Choi, executive vice president of Samsung Research. "By joining forces with Keysight, Samsung will be able to make a significant impact on the connectivity, health and safety of human society through 6G."

Keysight has the foundational technologies and key building blocks necessary to make 6G a reality. These technologies and blocks include network, channel and terminal equipment (UE) simulation, millimeter wave and sub-THz signal source and analysis, as well as high-speed Ethernet network simulation and data center connectivity testing. Keysight's integrated hardware and software test tools can be used for end-to-end consistency, interoperability, performance and security verification, which can help Samsung accurately and comprehensively explore the devices used to support future 6G usage scenarios.
