According to Korean media TheElec, after the iPhone 12 series uses OLED screens, the iPad Pro may follow suit. Apple is preparing to use OLED screens on the new iPad Pro to be launched next year.

Samsung and LG are currently developing new OLED panels for the iPad Pro, which may be launched in the second half of 2021.

Samsung Display is reportedly converting a production line at its A4 plant in Asan to produce OLED screens for iPads, while LG Display will use its E5 plant in Gumi to produce OLED samples for the new iPad Pro.

Apple will require higher specifications for OLED panels produced by Samsung Display and LG Display for iPad Pro than for screens it supplies for iPhone, people familiar with the matter said.

TheElec predicts that the iPad Pro launched in the first half of 2021 may not use OLED, and the new iPad Pro in the first half of 2021 will be equipped with a mini LED display (LCD). The iPad Pro with an OLED screen will be launched in the second half of next year.

In addition, regarding the difference between LCD and OLED: LCD's light-emitting principle mainly relies on the backlight layer, while OLED is a self-luminous screen with countless colors and is not affected by the backlight. However, in terms of cost, OLED is much more expensive than LCD.
