In June 2020, NI announced a final agreement to acquire OptimalPlus for $365 million, which will be paid entirely in cash and bonds. OptimalPlus is the world's leading data analysis software for the semiconductor, automotive and electronics industries. This acquisition will expand NI's enterprise software capabilities and provide customers with key business insights through advanced product analysis of their product development processes and supply chains. In 2019, OptimalPlus' revenue reached $51 million and the number of employees exceeded 240.
NI and OptimalPlus have highly complementary positions in the semiconductor, automotive, and electronics industries. NI test systems are used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, and OptimalPlus is a leading provider of data analytics for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Similarly, NI automotive and electronics production test services complement OptimiPlus' growing automotive and electronics business. Combining NI's software-centric approach with OptimalPlus' enterprise-class analytics software is expected to significantly increase the value of test and manufacturing data, enabling product insights that improve quality, efficiency, and time to market for NI and OptimalPlus customers.
“Our enhancements to OptimalPlus’ data analytics capabilities will enable us to increase enterprise-level value for our shared customers in the semiconductor and automotive industries and accelerate our core growth strategy,” said Eric Starkloff, president and CEO of NI. “In this era of digital transformation, we are committed to delivering innovative software and systems that leverage a powerful data platform to solve our customers’ business challenges. I welcome OptimalPlus’ employees and look forward to working together to accelerate our long-term growth objectives.”
“We are excited to have Optimal join the NI team and believe that NI can accelerate our innovation and increase sales opportunities through advanced product analytics. It is clear that we share a unique commitment to the need for high-quality software tools and a world-class customer experience. As a technology leader, NI can bring cutting-edge innovation to our R&D, product and data science teams in Israel, which is a testament to the tremendous dedication and commitment of our employees around the world. Together with NI, we will deliver enterprise-grade analytics to enable customers to achieve their digital transformation goals while expanding our customer reach.”
