ADI MEMS sensor technology helps Envision Energy build the foundation for smart wind turbine safety
Beijing, China - March 9, 2023, Analog Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADI), the world's leading semiconductor company, announced that Envision Energy, a subsidiary of the leading green technology company Envision Technology Group, has introduced ADI MEMS sensors in its new generation of smart wind turbines. Technology, by enhancing real-time monitoring of vibration, tilt and other information, enables safer wind turbine operation and design, thus raising the level of wind turbine safety to a new level. New capabilities provided by ADI's advanced MEMS sensors add intelligence to the edge, enabling real-time monitoring and further promoting the green energy revolution.
Wind power, as one of the most mature renewable energy sources, has achieved rapid development in China in recent years. According to data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of 2022, China's cumulative installed wind power capacity reached approximately 370 million kilowatts, ranking firmly in the world's largest wind power market. As the scale of wind power gradually expands, wind turbine components are being rapidly iterated. Towers are getting taller, blades are getting longer, and nacelles are getting heavier, posing greater challenges to the safe and reliable operation of wind power systems.
Among them, the tower, as one of the key wind turbine components, needs to be monitored to ensure the safe and reliable operation of wind power equipment. The tower extends from the ground up to the nacelle and blades. In order to improve safety and prevent extreme safety accidents such as tower collapse, Envision Energy and ADI worked together to introduce predictive maintenance technology into the core control of smart wind turbines. By deploying ADI precision inertial measurement units (IMUs) and low-noise, low-drift accelerometers at different locations, real-time monitoring of key state quantities of the tower is achieved, and corresponding measures are taken using the collected tower information to avoid accidents. .
Chen Haipeng, Director of Envision Energy's Intelligent Control Department , said: "In Envision's view, wind power and energy storage are the new coal, and safety is always the first factor in the process of deeply exploring their value. We are very happy to cooperate with ADI to carry out its High-precision, high-reliability, predictable MEMS sensors equip wind turbines with 'nose, eyes, and ears' to effectively ensure tower safety, and bring blade diameter and tower height to new boundaries, continuing to lead the industry's progress."
Zhao Yanhui, director of the microelectromechanical product line of ADI Asia Pacific, pointed out: "ADI has decades of deep accumulation in the field of MEMS sensors. We help customers solve application challenges in different scenarios through high-performance solutions and all-round support. This time with Vision Energy cooperation will safeguard the advancement of intelligent distributed wind turbines.”
