Arrow Electronics has signed an agreement with Israeli company Appletec under which Appletec will produce a range of compact camera modules (CCMs) for Arrow.
The CCM can add embedded vision capabilities to products used in fields such as industrial, medical, security and automotive, and will also provide customization services to support a variety of interconnect solutions.
The choice of CCM will depend on many factors in the application requirements. For example, the amount of detail to be captured will determine the resolution and frame rate, while the field of view (FOV) and depth of field will reflect the area to be covered.
Arrow CCM uses onsemi's CMOS image sensor and can utilize the image signal processor (ISP) on the customer's motherboard. To minimize costs, they do not include their own ISP. Initially, two fixed-focus CCMs will be available, providing 4-megapixel sensors and FOVs from 49 to 84°. Frame rates range from 36.7fps (720p) and 75fps (VGA) to 360fps. CCMs with autofocus and 13-megapixel sensors will be added soon, providing 30fps and 64° FOV.
The fourth CCM is based on a 1.26MP, 30fps sensor with an integrated image stream processor, enabling vision capabilities even on MCU platforms without the need for additional hardware components, keeping designs cost-effective.
System developers can write their own software drivers for the CCM or use Arrow’s eInfochips production-ready drivers, which will be available in late Q1 2022.
