Rohde & Schwarz is committed to providing the mobile communications industry with solutions to optimize existing technologies and promote the development of future technologies. At the upcoming Shanghai World Mobile Communications Conference, with the theme of "Intelligent 5G, Creating the Future", it will focus on introducing test and measurement solutions for 5G communication technology. The company's product portfolio covers the entire mobile communications life cycle from design, R&D, consistency testing and production to deployment and operation, and includes network and mobile terminal security testing.
Rohde & Schwarz will welcome guests at the Mobile World Congress in Hall N1 in Shanghai from June 26 to 28, 2019. Booth B70 will focus on topics ranging from 5G NR, mobile networks, the Internet of Things (IoT) to wireless connectivity and connected vehicles, fully demonstrating the company's strength in mobile communications.
5G NR terminal and base station testing and Massive MIMO testing
From components, chipsets to user terminals and base stations, Rohde & Schwarz test solutions help the industry launch 5G NR products faster and more reliably. At MWC Shanghai, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase a series of the latest test and measurement solutions for 5G NR terminal and base station testing in Sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave frequency bands (i.e. FR1 and FR2), covering R&D and production lines. For example, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase RF and performance test systems for 5G NR terminals, including the new 5G wireless communication tester R&S®CMX500, and will also showcase the consistency test system for 5G NR for the first time. Both test solutions can support FR1 and FR2, SA and NSA deployment modes at the same time, and are backward compatible with a variety of communication standards and non-cellular technology combinations, making them very suitable for wireless communication terminal product design and development.
In addition, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase production test solutions for 5G NR (including FR1 and FR2). Given that traditional methods are not suitable for testing active antenna systems used in upcoming terminals, Rohde & Schwarz has developed innovative OTA test solutions based on shielded anechoic chambers. This includes solutions for testing at extreme temperatures of -40 °C to +85 °C, as well as compact test range (CATR) devices for terminal verification and consistency testing. The plane wave converter R&S®PWC200 for 5G base station antennas will also be unveiled at MWC Shanghai.
The company will also showcase innovative cloud testing concepts that leverage the power of cloud computing to serve advanced testing applications. Automated testing scenarios such as 5G NR base station testing will benefit from fast signal analysis.
Mobile network testing solutions provide the best quality of experience
In order to provide the required quality of experience (QoE) to end users, mobile network operators committed to effectively utilizing 5G must overcome the challenges of increasingly complex air interfaces and demanding use cases. At this MWC Shanghai, the mobile network test solutions provided by Rohde & Schwarz enable operators to seamlessly cover test scenarios and technologies throughout the entire network lifecycle from the lab to the field.
One of the highlights is the Smart Platform, a Rohde & Schwarz software suite that combines high-quality data collection with intelligent analysis to achieve in-depth QoE-centric network analysis, enabling operators to identify key factors affecting network performance. Rohde & Schwarz's SmartAnalytics software integrates the Network Performance Score (NPS), a single quality metric that provides an ideal reference point for improving network quality and performance. Other highlights include the world's first 5G NR mobile network test solution, which enables operators and infrastructure providers to measure 5G NR network coverage, performance, and operation to ensure that 5G meets the required performance and quality requirements after transitioning from trial networks to commercial networks.
IoT and Wireless Connectivity Testing
The Internet of Everything makes cities smarter. Millions of connected devices enable a smarter and safer world, which relies on affordable connections designed for decades of operation. IoT modules and devices must be cost-effective and provide high reliability, long life and security. To meet these needs, Rohde & Schwarz provides comprehensive test solutions, covering IP security to production. At MWC Shanghai, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase the ALL-IN-ONE test platform R&S®CMW500 for NB-IoT, and demonstrate how to use the CMW500 test platform to verify the power consumption and other functions and performance of NB-IoT in combination with water meter applications.
In terms of wireless connectivity, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the world's first signaling test solution supporting WLAN IEEE 802.11ax 2x2 MIMO.
Drivers for Connected Car Testing
Cars are becoming more connected, and one of the technologies being considered for connected cars is 3GPP Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) based on 4G LTE and a roadmap to 5G V2X in the future. A fundamental requirement for the successful deployment of V2X communications is powerful RF testing. To meet the needs of the rapidly evolving C-V2X technology, Rohde & Schwarz has developed a strong product portfolio for the automotive industry and its suppliers. These state-of-the-art test and measurement solutions for C-V2X R&D and production will also be on display at MWC Shanghai.
