Latest! The United States authorizes TSMC to supply Huawei with 28nm chips
Earlier, there were reports that TSMC had obtained a license from the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue supplying some mature process products to Huawei. TSMC responded by saying that it would not respond to unfounded market rumors.
According to Juheng.com, a recent report from a foreign company shows that TSMC may only be allowed to supply mature processes above 28nm, which will not contribute much to its revenue.
It is reported that the SoC chips used in Huawei's TVs, cameras, set-top boxes and other products adopt a process of 28nm or above. These products contribute approximately US$100 million to TSMC's revenue, which is expected to account for only 2.2% of the total revenue.
The foreign capital pointed out that Huawei's mobile phone SoC chips, computing chips and base station chips all use 16nm, 7nm or 5nm advanced processes, which contributes about US$500 million to TSMC's revenue, but may not be able to obtain a supply license from the US Department of Commerce.
Therefore, the foreign company believes that being allowed to supply Huawei will not mean much to TSMC. Huawei accounted for 8% of TSMC's revenue in 2018 and 14% in 2019. In the first three quarters of this year, the proportion rose to 16%, but it may return to zero in the fourth quarter.
