US chip giant obtains permission to supply Huawei
September 19th news, according to foreign media reports, today at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference, Forrest Norrod, senior vice president and general manager of data center and embedded business of US processor giant AMD, revealed that the company has obtained a license to supply Huawei and it is not expected that the US "Huawei ban" will have a significant impact on AMD's business.
Forrest Norrod emphasized that AMD is 100% committed to complying with US laws and has taken appropriate measures to ensure that AMD manages the entity list and its interactions with customers or potential customers.
This is the first supplier to publicly announce that it has obtained a license after the "Huawei ban" officially took effect on September 15. After September 15, many manufacturers including Samsung, MediaTek, and Sony confirmed that they had stopped supplying Huawei before September 15. Manufacturers such as Micron Technology, which had previously obtained export licenses from the US government, also stopped supplying Huawei.
Previously, manufacturers including Intel, Micron Technology in the United States, Samsung, SK Hynix in South Korea, TSMC, MediaTek in Taiwan, and SMIC in mainland China have revealed that they have submitted license applications to the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue supplying Huawei.
However, some manufacturers applying for licenses and industry experts believe that the chances of having their applications approved are slim.
AMD is one of the processor suppliers for Huawei laptops, and its Ryzen series CPUs are used in many Huawei laptops.
