In the first month of 2019, BMW announced plans to launch three new cars.
On January 16, the new BMW 7 Series made its global debut in China, appearing alongside the BMW X7 and BMW 8 Series Coupe in BMW's full range of BMW products - meaning BMW has kicked off its product offensive in 2019.
At the same time, this also sent another signal: BMW attaches more importance to the Chinese market than ever before. One detail is that BMW Group Chairman Krüger, Director Dr. Peter, who is responsible for finance and China affairs, and Director Norda, who is responsible for sales and BMW brand, attended the event.
*Hermann Krüger, Chairman of the Board of BMW Group
In 2018, BMW achieved remarkable results in China: sales in China reached nearly 640,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. The Chinese market contributed more than a quarter of BMW's global sales - this is the best sales record since BMW officially entered the Chinese market in 1994. In the 25 years since entering China, BMW's cumulative sales in China have exceeded 4 million.
BMW Greater China President and CEO Jochen Goller summarized the above achievements into two aspects: first, thanks to the promotion of new products, BMW's core business continued to develop; second, in the transformation of the automotive industry towards the "new four modernizations", BMW's "2+4" initiatives have achieved solid implementation and significant progress.
2019: BMW's "strongest product offensive" year

BMW will continue to make efforts in the Chinese market in 2019. This year, the BMW brand will launch more than 21 new products in the Chinese market.
Starting the year with three main models of the full range of large luxury cars means that BMW will usher in the strongest product offensive in history in China in 2019. Among them, the innovative BMW X7 will be launched in the second quarter of this year, and the new BMW 7 Series and the all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe will be launched in the second half of the year.
It is understood that the three new models cover three major categories: full-size SUV, large sports car, and large luxury sedan, representing BMW's new design language and BMW's interpretation of luxury and Chinese customer needs. BMW's decision to hold the global premiere of the new BMW 7 Series in Shanghai shows the importance it attaches to the Chinese market and domestic consumers.
Leifeng.com New Intelligent Driving noticed that since the launch of the BMW 7 Series, the previous generation of products has not seen a replacement since 2015. After three years, the car ushered in a replacement, with certain breakthroughs in power and appearance design.
For example, the new BMW 7 Series will offer 2.0T, 3.0T, 4.0T and 6.6T engines, and will also launch plug-in hybrid models in the future.
In terms of exterior and interior, the new BMW 7 Series is based on the design concept of the 2014 BMW Vision concept car, and its new design language embodies the design principles of "precision and poetry".
As a new luxury car, the innovative BMW X7 introduces a new sense of space into the luxury car segment, offering three rows of seats with optional 6-seat and 7-seat layouts.
The all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe will become an important product for the future growth of the BMW 8 Series.
“New Four Modernizations” Transformation: BMW Reaps Great Harvest
Looking back on the past year, BMW’s performance in many aspects is indeed remarkable, whether in product layout or forward-looking changes around the “new four modernizations”.
For example, BMW became the first international vehicle manufacturer to obtain a license for autonomous driving road tests in China, thus starting field road tests for Level 4 (SAE) autonomous driving;
Last July, BMW announced that it would start in-depth cooperation with CATL, a Chinese battery cell supplier, to provide long-term and sustainable battery cell supply for BMW's electric vehicle production worldwide and in China.
Last November, BMW became the first multinational company to obtain an "online car-hailing operating license" in China.
In terms of joint venture construction, BMW announced that it will extend the joint venture agreement with BMW Brilliance until 2040, further expanding its investment in China. In 2018, BMW also established a new joint venture with Great Wall Motors to produce MINI brand electric vehicles in Zhangjiagang. This is an important layout for the MINI brand to move towards electrification.
It is worth noting that the first pure electric model in BMW's core product series, the BMW iX3, will be put into production at BMW Brilliance in 2020 and exported from China to global sales. The industry believes that the launch of the iX3 means that BMW's "sales market" in China is transforming into a "strategic market."
Leifeng.com New Intelligent Driving learned that BMW will also mass-produce the pure electric BMW i4 and BMW iNEXT from 2021. "The iNEXT smart connected car will be BMW's next generation of revolutionary products, showing the BMW Group's vision for future travel," said Krueger, chairman of the BMW Group.
In the coming year, BMW will further enrich the digital experience inside and outside the car, expand the scope and content of travel services, advance the research and development and investment in autonomous driving, and continue the strategic development of its global production network.
