Defining new standards for performance and reliability in automotive applications
RS Components (RS), a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), a global distributor serving engineers, has announced that it is now shipping the HOTcap™ series of radial leaded multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) from Vishay that meet the extreme operating conditions required by automotive applications. The K…H series of high operating temperature, radial leaded MLCCs offer unprecedented performance and reliability in a small package.
The K…H series utilizes precious metal electrodes and high reliability multilayer ceramic capacitors with all available ceramic dielectrics achieving an unmatched maximum operating temperature of +175°C. These dielectrics include: an ultra-stable C0G dielectric that achieves a capacitance variation of ±30ppm/K over the operating temperature range of –55°C to +175°C; and an X0U dielectric that has a capacitance variation of +22% to –56% over the same temperature range.
Qualified to AEC-Q200 standards, these capacitors are ideal for a range of automotive applications including EMI filtering in multiple functional areas such as exhaust and seat position sensors; cable harnesses as well as turbo, throttle and brake system controls.
Both dielectrics are available in voltage ratings of 50, 100 and 200V dc, with C0G dielectric components available in capacitance values from 100pF up to 12,0000pF (50Vdc) and X0U dielectrics in capacitance values from 47,000 up to 1,000,000pF (50V dc).
In order to adapt to extremely harsh working conditions, the series is equipped with high-performance MLCC chips produced by wet process and has noble metal electrodes for high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. These capacitors are available with straight or crimped leads with a spacing of 2.5 and 5.0mm; the lead size is 0.5 or 0.6mm and is made of 100% tinned copper clad steel wire; it is RoHS compliant and provides flame-retardant epoxy coating according to UL94V-0 requirements.
RS also offers sample packs of the K…H MLCC series, which contains 24 capacitors with different voltage ratings, capacitance values and dielectrics. RS is one of the first distributors to stock K…H capacitors in EMEA and APAC.
