July 31, 2024, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) today announced that it has begun shipping SSD products using the ninth generation (G9) TLC NAND technology, becoming one of the first manufacturers in the industry to achieve this milestone. Micron's G9 NAND technology has a data transfer rate of up to 3.6 GB/s, providing excellent data read and write bandwidth. This new NAND technology brings excellent performance to artificial intelligence (AI) and other data-intensive application scenarios, suitable for personal devices, edge servers, enterprises and cloud data centers. 1
Executive Vice President of Technology and Products at Micron
Scott DeBoer said:
" The volume production of Micron's G9 NAND technology demonstrates Micron's strength in process technology and design innovation. Micron's G9 NAND technology has market-leading density, enabling more compact and efficient storage solutions, bringing significant benefits to consumers and enterprises. "
Leading technology creates excellent performance
Micron’s G9 NAND technology meets the high throughput demands of data-intensive workloads with superior NAND input/output (I/O) rates, delivering data transfer rates 50 percent faster than current NAND technology in SSDs.2 At the same time, Micron’s G9 NAND delivers 99 percent higher write bandwidth and 88 percent higher read bandwidth per chip, respectively, compared to similar NAND solutions currently on the market.3 Together , these benefits improve the performance and energy efficiency of SSD and embedded NAND solutions.
Like previous-generation NAND products, Micron’s G9 NAND is available in a compact 11.5mm x 13.5mm package, which saves 28% space over competing products, making it an exceptionally small-footprint, high-density NAND.4 Achieving higher density in a smaller size maximizes design options for a wide range of use cases.
Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Micron
Sumit Sadana said:
" Micron has led the industry with innovative, leading-edge NAND technology for three consecutive generations. Products integrating Micron's G9 NAND will have significant performance advantages, and this technology will become the foundation for storage innovation and bring value to customers in all end markets."
