Refrigerator Compressor
Reference Design User Guide
Introduction
PMSM motors are widely used in household refrigerator compressors due to their higher efficiency and lower noise compared to traditional single-phase AC motors. A typical refrigerator electrical control system consists of two control boards, one for controlling the refrigerator system and the other for controlling the compressor. This Refrigerator Compressor Development Reference Design (RCDRD) is designed to help engineers develop PMSM compressor control applications using a dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller (DSC). The goal of this development reference design is to provide a competitive sensorless control solution for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) and Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM) compressors, both in hardware and software.

Hardware Description
The RCDB is powered by a 220V AC grid and uses a dsPIC33EP64MC202 to control the compressor motor. The input 220V AC voltage passes through a filter and protection circuit, and then is converted into a DC voltage through a rectifier circuit. The auxiliary power supply circuit provides non-isolated 15V and 3.3V voltages for the MCU, feedback circuit, and three-phase inverter bridge circuit.
