On April 19, 2022, Dr. Song Jiqiang, Vice President of Intel Research Institute and Director of Intel China Research Institute, was invited to attend the "Design Intelligence · Scenario Innovation" Summit Forum hosted by the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and Tsinghua·Qingshang Smart Scenario Innovation Design Institute and delivered a speech. The theme of the speech focused on "Cross-border Innovation of Intelligent Perception Computing and Scenario Design". Dr. Song Jiqiang introduced a variety of typical intelligent scenarios for digital transformation, focusing on the integrated innovation model of technology and design in new interactive scenarios, and introduced the infinite possibilities of Intel China Research Institute to explore integrated innovation through the combination of virtual and real.

Today, a new round of scientific and technological revolution represented by artificial intelligence is sweeping the world. Intelligent technology composed of artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of Things, virtual reality, digital twins, 5G, robots, etc. is changing the world and shaping the future at an unprecedented speed and in an unprecedented way.

Thanks to the innovative development of PCs, the Internet, sensors and communication technologies, the scale of China's digital economy has quadrupled in the past decade. Many fields, including education, medical care, manufacturing, etc., need to integrate digital technologies such as cloud computing, edge computing, robotics and artificial intelligence to improve social production efficiency and enhance the quality of human life.

——Dr. Song Jiqiang

Vice President of Intel Research

President of Intel China Research Institute

In the context of global digitalization and intelligence, collaborative innovation of design and technology has become a major trend in the development of the digital cultural industry in the future. Song Jiqiang emphasized that integrating technology and design can help realize many inclusive applications, and in the future, it is necessary to explore the diverse application scenarios of "technology + art" through a variety of technical layouts.

When talking about the integration of intelligent technology and design, Song Jiqiang believes that there are currently two types of implementation methods. The first type is to transform and develop the technology accordingly based on the needs of the scene to adapt to the scene . Taking the field of education as an example, in view of the trend of intelligent and information-based experimental courses in elementary, junior high and high schools in the future, and to solve the problems of insufficient teachers and manpower, Song Jiqiang shared the teaching tool platform "Welcome to Future Education and Co-create Intelligent Experiments" developed by Intel China Research Institute.

The platform applies edge computing technologies to physical, chemical and biological experiment scenarios, and based on artificial intelligence algorithms and with the help of Intel OpenVINO toolkit, it realizes end-to-end real-time intelligent experimental teaching assistance, creating unlimited possibilities for the design of future intelligent teaching scenarios. Through the combination of online and offline, virtual and real methods, it helps to narrow the digital divide in education.

The other is that when emerging technologies are produced, they are promoted to different fields through the combination of design and application. Take millimeter-wave radar as an example. This technology is commonly used at the rear of a car to sense obstacles when reversing. Intel China Research Institute combines its unique advantages in perception with artificial intelligence technology to develop innovative technology for contactless gesture interaction based on millimeter-wave radar.

Song Jiqiang said that this innovative technology has been applied in Lenovo all-in-one computers for human body detection, which can detect human breathing, heartbeat, etc. At the same time, this technology can also be used for gesture recognition and tracking, and realize interaction with computers without touching the device. Looking forward to the future, this non-contact interactive technology can be integrated into multiple scenarios such as art galleries, manufacturing plants, medical operating rooms, and nursing homes for the elderly, and cross-border integration innovation can be carried out to build a new interactive scene design, so that technology can benefit everyone on the earth.

Tsinghua University, relying on its advantages and characteristics in comprehensive disciplines and its profound accumulation in the fields of design and aesthetics, has continuously improved the collaborative innovation mechanism of industry, academia and research, established a new win-win model of innovation between universities and enterprises, and strived to achieve disruptive breakthroughs in the field of smart scene innovation. Over the years, Intel and Tsinghua University have established a long-term, stable and profound cooperative relationship. In the figure skating exhibition skating session of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the art team of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University used Intel 3DAT technology to show the world a "light and shadow performance" that combines the beauty of figure skating, the wisdom of technology application and the fun of Chinese culture.

In the future, Intel will continue to work with Tsinghua University to apply innovative technologies more widely to all aspects of people's life, work, and entertainment, integrating art, culture, and technology to write a wonderful chapter.
