In today's digital age, electronic ID cards (eID) have become the main legal document used by countries to prove the legal identity of individuals. Electronic ID cards can not only easily assist cardholders in completing identity identification, but their functions can also be further extended to online identity verification, simplifying the verification process for cardholders to access e-government and welfare, and eliminating the need for cardholders to personally go to government agencies to queue up in long lines. In Vietnam, this advanced electronic ID card is becoming a reality: Infineon Technologies and MK Smart, a subsidiary of the MK Group, have collaborated to develop a more powerful Vietnamese electronic ID card to enhance the existing Vietnamese ID card. The chip and operating system supplied by the two parties can securely store ICAO-compliant e-ID data information and ensure that the holder can use encrypted biometrics and digital signatures to achieve secure access to citizen services on government and private portals. In addition, the holder can use the document to authenticate himself at government agencies and banks. Infineon's latest 40nm SLC37 security controller and innovative dual-interface coupling packaging technology provide support for the realization of the above functions.


The coupled packaging technology allows the chip module to communicate directly with the card antenna via radio frequency. Through the coupled mode, the chip module will not need to use a physical link to fix it to the card antenna. This technology greatly simplifies MK Smart's card production process and reduces the large amount of capital investment required for welding and brazing equipment. The coupled packaging technology can effectively avoid the risk of chip and card antenna breaking under physical connection, increase the durability of the card, and thus reduce the failure rate during the card production process. As a result, MK Smart was able to complete the production target within the time set by the Vietnamese government.


In the direction of the development of certificates, large memory and dual interfaces are two major trends . Therefore, the SLC37 security controller's support for large memory and dual interfaces can better provide technical reserves for the development and expansion of multiple applications for Vietnam's electronic ID card in the future .
