| Serious financial difficulties! LeddarTech announced that it received $3 million in bridge financing

LeddarTech, an automotive software company, recently announced that it has received a second tranche of a $3 million bridge loan ( Bridge Financing ) . This is part of a total of up to $9 million of bridge financing provided to the Company by certain of the Company’s major shareholders (i.e., FS Investors (“FS”), investissement québec (“IQ”) and its senior lender, the Fédération des caisses des jardins du québec (“des jardins”), and FS and IQ, the “Initial Bridge Lenders”). As previously stated, the Bridge Financing consists of two tranches, the first of which is $6 million, which was completed on August 19, 2024. The second tranche is a bridge financing of up to $3 million, which is conditional upon the absence of any default under the Bridge Facility and the Company receiving commitments from strategic investors to invest at least $5 million in a subsequent equity financing. The Bridge Financing constitutes a waiver of the provisions of Rule 61-101 – Protection of Minority Security Holders in Special Transactions (“Rule 61-101 ”) because FS, IQ and the other Bridge Lenders are “insiders” of the Company under Canadian securities laws. However, given that the Company’s Board of Directors (the “Board”) has determined that the Company is in severe financial difficulty, the Company is relying on the “financial difficulty” exemption contained in Regulation 61-101 to waive the formal valuation and minority shareholder approval requirements.

It is reported that at the beginning of this year, LeddarTech announced the completion of US$59 million in financing and successfully listed on Nasdaq.
The company's deal with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Prospector Capital was initially announced in June 2023 and closed in late December.

Endorsed by OSRAM

Founded in 2007 as a spinoff of Canada's National Optics Institute, LeddarTech raised $6.5 million in venture capital in 2010 to support its 3D detection and ranging technology, and in 2016 announced details of low-cost solid-state lidar hardware that is expected to be used in advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) applications and autonomous vehicles. Lighting giant ams Osram subsequently bought a 25% stake in the company, and then in December 2020 partnered with software specialist dSpace to seek to combine simulation software with LeddarTech's lidar sensors.
After shifting its focus from hardware to software, LeddarTech announced in February 2022 that it had secured $140 million in Series D funding, including a $24 million debt facility. Then in June 2022, it opened a development center in Tel Aviv, Israel dedicated to sensor fusion and perception development, complementing sites in Montreal and Toronto.
The company’s “LeddarVision” product, which is able to combine camera images with data from radar and lidar sensors, is touted for a range of applications including parking assist, adaptive cruise control, collision warning systems, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection and more.

| Professor Jianping Chen's team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University reported the results of ultra-high output rate parallel coherent lidar at ECOC2024 PDP

Recently, in Frankfurt, Germany, the results of Professor Chen Jianping's team from the Department of Electronic Engineering, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University on large-scale parallel ranging of high-speed frequency-modulated laser-pumped electro-optical combs were accepted as PDP papers (post-deadline papers) . The team's related research work on lidar has attracted much attention internationally and has been accepted as PDP or best student papers by the three top optical conferences ECOC, OFC and CLEO for three consecutive years. This work combines ultrafast frequency-modulated lasers and electro-optical frequency combs to propose a parallel lidar detection scheme with ultrafast output rate.

Figure 1: The author of the paper is giving a report at the conference

The ultrafast frequency modulated laser is based on a silicon nitride-lithium niobate hybrid material platform, which can simultaneously take advantage of the low loss of silicon nitride and the high modulation bandwidth of lithium niobate to achieve a high-performance ultrafast frequency modulated continuous wave source, achieving a tuning range of 55nm, a side mode suppression ratio of 70dB, an intrinsic linewidth of 188Hz, and an integrated linewidth of 6kHz. The laser can reach a maximum sweep speed of 10MHz, and at this speed, it achieves a relative nonlinearity of 0.63%, a sweep bandwidth of 1.75GHz, and a spatial ranging accuracy of 2.7cm (1.92m distance), and the chirp rate of 35PHz/s is currently the highest in the world.

At the same time, the laser is used to pump the generation of the electro-optical frequency comb. Through the linear frequency sweep pump laser, each comb tooth exhibits basically consistent frequency sweep characteristics and emits to different spatial directions to achieve parallel ranging. The experiment used a total of 23 electro-optical comb teeth to achieve 23-channel detection and point cloud image generation, with a point cloud rate of up to 230MHz, which is 1 to 2 orders of magnitude faster than previous work. | AEye Apollo LiDAR sensor performs well in field tests, demonstrating unparalleled performance at 1 km

AEye’s Apollo lidar sensor has achieved outstanding results in recent field tests, consistently providing high-resolution data at distances of more than 1 kilometer. This breakthrough is believed to be a first in the lidar industry and demonstrates Apollo’s potential to significantly enhance automotive safety and security applications, making it a standout in the growing lidar market. During the recent testing phase, Apollo accurately detected vehicles and other objects at distances of more than one kilometer on a busy highway.

Apollo demonstrated its ability to collect detailed, high-quality data at long distances. This capability is critical for automotive applications, helping advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) detect objects at greater distances, giving drivers more time to react more effectively, especially at highway speeds. “The fact that we can deliver this performance provides strong support for 1550nm technology as OEMs and others seek an ultra-long-range, high-speed lidar solution,” said Matt Fisch, CEO of AEye. “We believe Apollo’s performance of over one kilometer is the longest range ever evaluated for any lidar sensor outside of a laboratory environment.”

We believe Apollo can meet all of NHTSA’s safety performance requirements, including the latest and most stringent forward collision warning requirement, which must be effective at speeds of 90 miles per hour. At the same time, Apollo’s small size does not require OEMs to compromise their design standards. We expect Apollo to play a key role in future automotive safety. “Long-range, high-resolution data acquisition is critical to enhancing automotive safety and security applications. AI-based decision-making systems are significantly enhanced by long-range, high-resolution data over a large field of view, allowing for rapid identification and more time to react to objects and threats, which is especially important for vehicle safety on highways. Another benefit of Apollo is that it can greatly reduce the front-end complexity of AI models, thereby accelerating the development and deployment of embedded AI systems. We are excited to continue leading innovation in this area while driving the development of Apollo.” (source: AEye
