A battle for supremacy among the heroes! IoT smart home may redefine
Today is the Internet era, the mobile Internet era, and the Internet of Things era. Speaking of the Internet of Things, we have to mention the smart home, which is very popular in the current technology industry. Bill Gates once said: "In the near future, homes without smart home systems will be as out of fashion as homes without Internet access today." In recent years, the rapid advancement of smart homes has made Bill Gates' prediction one step closer to reality, and the "near future" seems to be just around the corner.
In 2014, smart homes can be said to have begun to burn, and have completely ignited the enthusiasm of many world-renowned companies to participate. At the beginning of the year, Google's acquisition of Nest Labs, a smart home equipment provider, for $3.2 billion opened the curtain of smart home development in 2014, followed by a year-long smart home development boom. From Apple, Microsoft, Intel, Amazon, Samsung abroad to Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba, Xiaomi, Haier, Midea, etc. in China, they all targeted the Internet of Things industry and regarded smart homes as the next high ground to compete for.
Generally speaking, the devices involved in the actual application of smart home are very rich, including hardware such as smart home host, smart door lock, smart switch, smart socket, smart light bulb, thermostat, smoke detector, smart camera, air purifier, etc. and software such as corresponding mobile phone applications. Through smart home, it is possible to control and manage the doors, windows, lights, temperature, humidity, security and other aspects of the home, and improve the safety and comfort of family life.
However, from the current "main attack" direction of smart home by Internet giants, the smart home referred to is still mainly smart home products. Although Nest Labs' two products, thermostat and smoke detector, are stars in the smart home industry, they are basically independent individuals, and their main functions and areas covered are only temperature adjustment and smoke detection, which is not consistent with the smart home scenario we envision. Similarly, the so-called smart home by home appliance dealers basically refers to smart home appliances, and for current smart home appliances, interconnection is still a problem. With the development
and application of new generation information and communication technologies such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and big data, the Internet of Things smart home is gradually emerging. The so-called smart home is difficult to meet the all-round intelligence of modern families and is gradually being pushed to the edge of traditional smart homes. The IoT smart home is to connect various devices on the basis of traditional smart home, and to manage and control them uniformly through a unified platform, so as to realize the interconnection and mutual control between devices, and realize the safety, health, science, harmony, comfort and efficiency of people's home living environment. The final destination should be the smart home.
According to the view of the famous domestic smart home enterprise IoT sensor, which will be unveiled at AWE (China Home Appliance Expo) in March 2015, the basic concept of the IoT smart home is to use wireless communication technology to connect "people, homes, and cars", and on the basis of this concept, to realize the mutual communication and mutual control between devices, so as to maximize the smart effect of the home. Compared with the traditional smart home, the IoT smart home has three major advantages and four major functions.
In terms of advantages, it is not only more convenient to install wireless in the early stage, simpler to operate and use in the mid-term, and faster to expand and upgrade in the later stage, but also takes people's emotional needs as the starting point, provides a more comfortable and natural way of interaction, makes the equipment more "smart", actively detects, perceives, and gives feedback in time, and creates a safer, healthier and more comfortable family living environment. In terms of functions, the IoT smart home is not a point presented by a single smart home device, nor is it a line connected by several devices, but a network formed by all aspects of life. Through this network, users will be provided with four basic functions: remote, timing, scene and linkage, so that the operation mode of the device can break through the limitations of time and space, or respond at a fixed time, or get it done with one button, or transmit triggers, making it more powerful and smarter.
It is worth mentioning that although the real effect has not yet been seen, the IoT smart home has gradually become an important direction for many smart home "edge" companies (Internet companies and home appliance retailers). The open API of Google's Nest thermostat, Apple's smart home platform HomeKit, Baidu's Baidu Zhijia, Samsung's "Samsung Smart Home", etc. are all the results of smart homes embracing the Internet of Things.
