According to the WeChat account Analog_Dialogue, NXP has announced the closure of its APS (Advanced Power System) R&D department in China.

This change will only affect R&D personnel whose work locations are in mainland China. R&D personnel in other regions of the production line will remain in their original departments, and the R&D tasks originally undertaken by the Chinese region will also be transferred to Taiwan and overseas.

The placement plan for R&D personnel is a two-way match with other departments within the company, and the successfully matched employees are selected for internal transfers. Apart from this, there is no layoff compensation plan.

It is reported that the department has a stable staff and achieved remarkable R&D performance in the past year. Its R&D capabilities are highly recognized by the US team. It focuses on the R&D of Power Delivery products for consumer electronics in China and has analog circuit design engineers, analog layout engineers, digital circuit design engineers, and digital circuit verification engineers.

NXP is headquartered in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and was formerly the semiconductor division of Philips of the Netherlands. In 2006, the business unit was spun off from Philips and formally established as NXP Semiconductors. The name NXP comes from "Next Experience", which also retains the genes of Philips, emphasizing that NXP has accumulated valuable experience and rich resources in the past 53 years at Philips.

At the beginning of its establishment, CEO Richard Clemmer and the management team established the company's strategy to develop market-leading and highly differentiated businesses and obtain profitability. In 2015, NXP merged with Freescale, another leading semiconductor company, to further expand its business in the fields of Internet of Things and automobiles, and focused on the development of secure and reliable edge computing, connection technology and efficient power management solutions. It has established a market leadership in key areas such as ADAS, next-generation electric vehicles, and secure connections across the Internet of Things, mobile devices and automotive ecosystems.

In March 2020, NXP's Board of Directors unanimously nominated Kurt Sievers, 50, as President and CEO.

Among the top ten analog IC manufacturers in the world recently announced by IC Insights, NXP maintained its honor as the world's seventh largest analog IC supplier with a revenue of 3.5 billion yuan. Among them, the automotive business contributed a lot. NXP previously stated in the financial report that the revenue of the automotive business in 2021 was 5.493 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 44%, accounting for nearly 50% of the total revenue. The performance growth in 2021 was mainly due to the substantial growth in demand in the automotive, industrial and IoT terminal markets, which are the company's strategic priorities, coupled with the accelerated adoption of the company's innovative products and solutions, and the market response strategy of shifting costs to customers.
