Calibration-free high-precision metering chip HLW8032 Keywords HLW8032, HLW8012, power metering Abstract HLW8032 is another metering IC suitable for the field of smart home after HLW8012. It is the latest power metering chip launched by Shenzhen Heliwei Technology for the Internet of Things. HLW8032 is an updated version based on HLW8012, and is PIN TO PIN compatible with HLW8012. Text HLW8032 Introduction HLW8032 can communicate data through the UART port, uses 5V power supply, built-in 3.579M crystal oscillator, 8PIN SOP package, and can be used in power metering applications such as smart sockets and LED lighting. The following figure is the chip pin diagram of HLW8032 and HLW8012: Figure 1 Pin diagram of HLW8032 and HLW8012 As can be seen from the above figure, the pins of HLW8032 and HLW8012 are compatible, and HLW8032 and HLW8012 can be interchanged without changing the PCB. The following table is a performance comparison table between HLW8032 and HLW8012: From the above table, we can see that there is basically no difference between HLW8032 and HLW8012 in terms of performance indicators, except that the power consumption is 1MA higher than that of HLW8012, and the serial communication method is adopted, and the other indicators are completely consistent; the baud rate of the serial port output of HLW8032 is 4800bps, and data is sent every 50ms. The UART of HLW8032 uses two pins, the TX pin is used to send data from HLW8032, and the data is sent with low bit (LSB) first, and the RX pin is used to receive data from the microcontroller. Each time HLW8032 sends a complete data, it is 24 bytes; it starts from register 1 (State REG) to send a group of data to register 11 (CheckSum REG), a total of 11 registers, 24 bytes of data. The data format is as follows: Figure 2 UART frame data HLW8032 application The figure below is a typical application circuit of HLW8012. It can be seen from the figure that the peripheral circuit has only a few simple components to achieve the sampling of voltage channel and current channel. The peripheral application circuit is exactly the same as HLW8012, so the peripheral application circuit is also fully compatible with HLW8012. Figure 3 HLW8032 typical application HLW8032 power calculation method After the MCU reads the register of HLW8032 through the serial port, it calculates the voltage effective value, current effective value and active power through the formula. Because HLW8032 has been calibrated at the factory, the factory accuracy of HLW8032 is about 2%. Therefore, if high-precision peripheral circuit components are selected (as shown in the figure above, 1mR sampling resistor and 470K voltage divider resistor), the measurement accuracy can be guaranteed to be controlled at about 2%, eliminating the trouble of user calibration. The calculation method is as follows: (1) Voltage effective value calculation Voltage coefficient: the resistance voltage divider coefficient of the voltage channel. Taking Figure 3 as an example, (2) Current effective value calculation Current coefficient: the resistance coefficient of the current channel. Taking Figure 3 as an example, the sampling resistor is R = 0.001Ω, then (3) Active power calculation Conclusion HLW8032 is a high-precision measurement IC. It is an upgraded version of HLW8012 and uses a serial port communication method, making communication with the MCU more convenient. At the same time, because it is calibrated at the factory, the chip itself has an accuracy of 2%, which also eliminates the calibration problem of customers during production, bringing great convenience to customers\' production.
