Huawei's latest flagship phone Mate 10 series uses Dialog power conversion chipset

Dialog’s SmartDefender™ and other advanced charging technologies help reduce charging times and enhance safety

Beijing, China, December 14, 2017 – Dialog Semiconductor (DG: DLG), a leading supplier of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, charging and Bluetooth low energy technologies, has announced that its RapidCharge™ chipset supporting the SuperCharge protocol has been adopted by Huawei’s latest smartphone power adapters such as the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Edition. As the adoption of fast charging in smartphones accelerates, this is another important milestone in Dialog’s market leadership in AC/DC power conversion technology, with Dialog’s market share in the smartphone fast charging field continuing to remain above 60%.

Huawei recently launched the eye-catching Mate 10 smartphone series, a breakthrough artificial intelligence (AI) device that combines innovative hardware and software, including the Kirin 970 chipset and EMUI 8.0 operating system. The Kirin 970 is the world's first AI processor for smartphones, with a dedicated neural network processing unit (NPU). All models in the Huawei Mate 10 series are equipped with the new Leica dual camera with SUMMILUX-H lens, both cameras have an f/1.6 aperture, and have intelligent photography functions, including AI real-time scene and object recognition and AI out-of-focus imaging (Bokeh) effect.

Using Huawei's latest full-screen display technology, the Huawei Mate 10 has a stunning 5.9-inch 16:9 display and HDR10 for vivid colors. The 6-inch Huawei Mate 10 Pro features an 18:9 OLED display with a high screen-to-body ratio and HDR10 for dynamic video images. The Huawei Mate 10 series uses a 4000 mAh high-density battery with an intelligent battery management system that learns user habits and intelligently allocates power to maximize battery life. It also supports 4.5 V /5 A low-voltage Huawei SuperCharge technology, which can charge the device from 1% to 58% in 30 minutes ⁽¹⁾ . In addition, Huawei SuperCharge is the world's first fast charging technology to receive TÜV fast charging safety certification, ensuring safe end-to-end charging.

The iW671 synchronous rectifier further increases efficiency to around 90%, achieving the high power density required for small form factor adapters. The chipset (iW631, iW1780H and iW671) provides important protection features for smartphone charging systems, including Dialog's proprietary SmartDefender™ advanced hiccup technology to address soft short circuit issues and help prevent damage to charging cables and connectors due to overheating, enabling safer and more reliable fast charging. In addition, automatic AC disconnect detection protects smartphone batteries from high voltage damage if the charger is disconnected and then plugged into a wall outlet again while the charging cable is still connected to the device.

(1) Based on Huawei laboratory test results. In the test, the device was charged with a Huawei SuperCharge charger and charging cable when the device battery level was 1% with the display turned off, the device was connected to a 4G network, the room temperature was 25°C, and the relative humidity was 45-80%.
