Solution Selection丨RF and Microwave Solutions for Electronic Test and Measurement
Minimizing the noise floor (e.g., phase noise) of an RF test bench is important for maintaining test signal purity over a wide dynamic range. However, obtaining a clean signal is a challenge as more digital signal processing tasks increase radiated noise.
Another important goal is to maximize the bandwidth of the RF test bench.
Software-defined radio can be implemented in this platform to facilitate configuration, operation, maintenance, and upgrades. However,
finding components good enough to cover this wide bandwidth is a challenge.
Time drift and temperature drift are two key factors in obtaining accurate, repeatable readings over the operating range from electronic test and measurement instruments
. However, neither factor is easy to
calibrate out.

The figure below shows the traditional spectrum/signal analyzer signal chain. ADI provides a variety of solutions for signal analysis and frequency synthesis, including DDS solutions and phase-locked loops for generating LO and test signals, as well as low-noise amplifiers and gain blocks, mixers, variable gain amplifiers, and video/RF amplifiers to form a complete transmit and receive signal chain; in addition, there are high-precision, high-resolution 14/16-bit high-speed ADCs. For low-cost solutions and internal level calibration, ADI provides broadband RF detectors and dual-channel RF power detectors that can measure gain and phase.
ADI offers a variety of solutions for frequency synthesis, including all-digital DDS solutions, phase-locked loops for RF applications, high-speed DACs that support direct multi-carrier signal frequency synthesis at baseband/IF/RF frequencies, as well as mixers, modulators, variable gain amplifiers, and video and RF amplifiers to form a complete signal chain.
