ADI introduces quad-band VCO for microwave applications, providing broadband capabilities without sacrificing phase noise performance

ADI has announced a series of four-band voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) that provide broadband capabilities without sacrificing phase noise performance. When used in today's RF and microwave environments, the new four-band VCOs provide wider RF response and higher frequency flexibility than narrowband VCOs. Compared to traditional single-band broadband VCOs, they also provide lower phase noise while continuing to maintain low current consumption. These features enable end applications to enter the market faster.



The quad-band VCO family offers ultra-wideband capability with a fundamental frequency range of 8.3 GHz to 26.6 GHz. In addition to providing low phase noise performance, the VCO does not generate sub-harmonic frequency tones. Wideband capability coupled with low phase noise is critical for many of today's high-end instrumentation and aerospace and defense applications.

  • Integrated fundamental oscillator so any multiplication effects in the device do not generate sub-harmonic tones

  • Shorten switching time between VCO frequency bands without causing voltage overshoot

  • Low supply current consumption (as low as 60mA typical)

  • Lower tuning voltage and narrower sensitivity-frequency ratio compared to conventional single-band wideband VCOs, reducing loop filter design complexity

  • Available in a 40-lead 6x6mm LFCSP SMT package.
