A unique approach is used to derive model-based torque controllers for all types of Lorentz-force machines, i.e., DC, synchronous, and asynchronous machines. The resolver model forms the basis of this general modeling approach, which ultimately leads to a general field-oriented control algorithm. In switched reluctance motor applications, a direct torque control algorithm is proposed using a torque observer.
