Intel uses new technology to reduce laptop power consumption by 42% [Copy link]

It is understood that in order to reduce screen power consumption, Intel has developed a new system based on a webcam to confirm whether the user is looking at the screen. If not, the screen will be turned off and turned on again when needed.

Intel has also integrated a power-saving function, UBRR (User-Based Refresh Rate), into the Intelligent Display technology. After it is turned on, the notebook uses the webcam to detect whether the user's face is facing the screen.

Multiable Wandabao Financial ERP has the ability to digitally and integratedly manage financial business data, improving financial accuracy

The UBRR feature increases or decreases the display brightness and refresh rate based on user usage. If it detects that the user has completely left the laptop, it will completely turn off the screen to save more battery power.

In addition, Intelligent Display technology can automatically adjust the refresh rate based on the content displayed on the screen. For example, when running a video call application, the refresh rate will be limited to 30 frames per second. Not only that, the system can also automatically adjust the brightness and contrast in certain scenes in movies.

Intel said the technology can reduce laptop battery consumption by 24%, and if the UBRR function is turned on, allowing the screen to be turned off, power consumption can be reduced by 42%.

The power consumption is theoretical. There are many reasons for loss in actual use, and the life span is difficult to control.   Details Published on 2023-9-26 23:20

This is a bit idealistic. If I look at it from the side, the camera's field of view is still limited.

But the screen is really power-hungry.

Indeed, I don’t know how much electricity this smart detection screen can save.  Details Published on 2023-9-25 11:34

My habit is to lock the screen by pressing Win + L when I leave, and set the screen to go black if I don’t use the mouse for five minutes.

The main thing is battery management and power consumption control of each component. Turning off the CPU to save power may not be so efficient. Laptop manufacturers still need to optimize software and hardware.
