Automotive chips are hard to come by, 20 yuan chips are being sold for 3,000 yuan, and it takes more than 400 days to get them [Copy link]

For major automakers, the surge in consumer demand makes them love and hate it. Since the beginning of 2021, domestic automotive chips have been in short supply due to production capacity issues, so that many automakers have to slow down production lines. The previously mediocre automotive chips have become a "hot commodity".

According to authoritative media reports, the electronic body stability system produced by STMicroelectronics used to cost only 20 yuan, but now due to shortages and scalpers' reselling, the price has been driven up to nearly 3,000 yuan, and there is no demand for it.

But even with such a high price, it still attracts many companies to buy "with tears", and the continuous rise in automotive chips has also caused the overall car prices to rise. Taking new energy vehicles as an example, Xiaopeng Motors' whole vehicle cost increased by 4,200 to 8,000 yuan due to the increase in chip prices. At the same time, Volkswagen's new energy vehicles also increased in price across the board, once exceeding 6,000 yuan.

This means that the money consumers pay when purchasing new energy vehicles will increase, which will put many car companies under considerable competitive pressure. After all, domestic cars are now competing for price advantages to attract customers. Whoever has the right price and high cost-effectiveness will see their car sales increase.

But why have the prices of automotive chips risen so high? There is even a situation where "chips are hard to come by".

In fact, from a macro perspective, the industry has been severely affected by the epidemic, especially the repeated outbreaks in Europe and the United States, which has led to problems in the supply chain. In addition, the epidemic has also led to an increase in chip costs, and both upstream and downstream industrial chains have been affected, resulting in a significant decline in chip supply.

But this kind of almost crazy price increase for automotive chips is not the first time. Last year, the media revealed that a chip worth less than 10 yuan was deliberately hyped up to more than 400 yuan by a company called Chip Electronics. In just a few months, the price of the chip increased 40 times. At the same time, the national market supervision agency fined the company 500,000 yuan.

However, in addition to these, there are also many scalpers and chip dealers who are hoarding chips on a large scale, which makes the number of chips entering the market even smaller. Downstream companies bluntly say that the total inventory does not exceed 1,000 pieces, and you probably have to rely on luck to buy them. Even if you can get the goods, you have to wait in line for more than 400 days, and some even have to wait until 2023.

The key point is that many of these chips are not high-end products. The single-chip microcomputers are made with a process of hundreds of nanometers. Will this also be strangled? I don't quite understand. Can someone explain it to me?   Details Published on 2022-3-24 18:42

It's okay, the wool will eventually come from the sheep, and consumers will always be stabbed countless times.

The two countries of Russia and Ukraine are fighting, but the beneficiaries are actually the United States and Russia. Isn't it strange?

It is really difficult to choose chips when starting a new project now, for fear that they will be out of stock later!
