Aixin Yuanzhi CEO Qiu Xiaoxin attended the WAIC2022 chip theme forum to discuss the "differentiated value" of AI chips
To create a truly persistent and immersive metaverse space, what upgrades do existing chip technologies need to make? Will the metaverse era become a tool for my country's chip industry to overtake others?
On September 2, the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference officially opened. The global artificial intelligence development achievements and the latest practices of "AI+Metaverse" were unveiled, deeply interpreting the theme of "Intelligently Connected World Metaverse Unbounded" . As one of the heavyweight forums of the conference, the chip theme forum hosted by the Shanghai Integrated Circuit Industry Association was held at the Zhangjiang Science Museum on the afternoon of the 1st. Academicians and experts in the field of artificial intelligence chips, representative well-known entrepreneurs and leaders at home and abroad gathered to talk about "AI Future, Sensing the Chip World". In the roundtable meeting, Dr. Qiu Xiaoshen, founder and chairman of Aixin Yuanzhi and CEO, and other representatives in the field of AI chips were invited to attend. They shared and exchanged views on topics such as chip market expansion, scenario applications, and ecological environment construction under the background of the Metaverse, and discussed how chips can break through in the Metaverse era.
The Metaverse is a combination of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and cloud computing. It builds a parallel world of augmented reality and virtual reality through an immersive interactive experience. As one of the basic hardware of the Metaverse, chips need to be upgraded in many aspects to meet the needs of creating a truly lasting and immersive Metaverse space. As a result, improving computing power has become an important upgrade direction for chips. Dr. Qiu Xiaoshen pointed out the importance of improving computing power from the user side. She believes that "in the future, users will establish connections with the Metaverse through smart terminal devices, which includes the complex process of perception, virtualization, and digital presentation of the real world. Extremely high computing power requirements will become inevitable, especially the chips connected to the end-side devices require great breakthroughs."
When talking about forward-looking topics such as how to lay out new tracks such as the Metaverse, Dr. Qiu Xiaoxin, starting from the entrepreneurial process of Aixin Yuanzhi, affirmed the value of innovative companies to build differentiated capabilities, "Thinking about what the application scenarios of technology are and what value it can bring to customers is very critical for start-ups." Aixin Yuanzhi, founded in 2019, innovatively empowers ISP with AI, hits the rigid market demand for image quality improvement, and meets customers' product needs in different scenarios. "We believe that users' pursuit of image quality improvement will never end, so we must continue to break through the technical ceiling of imaging, generate new differentiated value, and gain more customer recognition in order to realize our original vision," said Qiu Xiaoxin.
As the first company to commercialize and mass-produce AI-ISP technology on chips, Aixin Yuanzhi has successfully mass-produced two generations of edge-side AI chips, covering three major industries: smart cities, smart consumption, and smart transportation. Aixin Yuanzhi was invited to appear at WAIC2022 and officially announced the Chinese name of its self-developed core technology AI-ISP, "Aixin Zhimou®", which means to give full play to the technical advantages in the field of visual perception, so that AI-ISP can empower different terminals and bring excellent picture quality that breaks through traditional bottlenecks.
At the forum, regarding the topic of "overtaking on a curve", the host also raised his question: China's chip industry is catching up and gradually shortening the gap with the leading countries. In the era of the metaverse, can China's chip industry complete the overtaking on a curve? In this regard, Dr. Qiu Xiaoxin said that in the era of the metaverse, China is actually standing on the same starting line as the world. "At this time, we need to rely on 'internal strength'. When we start at the same time, if China's chip industry wants to truly become the first echelon in the world, we must compete with our technical strength. Only when we have achieved our own strength can we seize such an opportunity." In fact, Aixin Yuanzhi established the original intention of "establishing ourselves with technology and transforming the industry" at the beginning of its establishment. Relying on the industry-leading technologies such as Aixin Zhimou® AI-ISP and mixed-precision NPU developed independently, it has achieved rapid product implementation and industrial layout through the strategic path of growing together with customers.
At present, the development of the Metaverse industry has become the focus of attention from all walks of life. The WAIC2022 Chip Theme Forum Roundtable Meeting brought us relevant thoughts on how AI chip companies can innovate, start businesses, and upgrade their development in the Metaverse era through in-depth exchanges among corporate guests. Looking to the future, chip companies need to look up at the stars and see development opportunities. More importantly, they need to be down-to-earth and pragmatic in promoting substantive work from research and development to implementation. As Dr. Qiu Xiaoxin said at the end, "The opportunity is right in front of us, but only with matching strength can we seize the opportunity."
