One year's work equals three years' work? TSMC engineer shows off 2.5 million yuan bonus [Copy link]

Recently, a Taiwanese engineer revealed that due to the outstanding performance of the department in 2021, TSMC's salary and benefits are equivalent to working in one year for two or three years.

In 2021, affected by the industry-wide chip shortage and the struggle between major powers, TSMC, which undertakes half of the world's wafer foundry capacity, has become the center of the industry chain. As one of the most profitable semiconductor companies in the world, TSMC's gross profit margin exceeds 50%, and its employee salaries are also relatively competitive in the industry.

According to this Taiwanese engineer, he receives a fixed salary of 14 months a year at TSMC . His department performed very well in 2021, so he received five quarterly performance bonuses , each exceeding NT$500,000 (approximately RMB 115,000). His annual income is at least 14 months' salary + NT$2.5 million in bonuses.

Judging from other positions at TSMC, performance bonuses exceeding five times are not necessarily guaranteed, but 14-month salary + 2 million NT dollars for the whole year is still common. For example, a FAB equipment engineer said that the salary difference between different levels is not big, mainly depends on the bonus, and even if it is worse, it is still more than 20 months .

Some engineers also said that the best option might be to switch to a mainland China wafer factory after working at TSMC for 4-5 years. Previously, when mainland China factories were poaching the most aggressively, they could generally offer annual salaries more than three times higher .

In mainland China, a PIE engineer from TSMC's Nanjing plant said that the annual salary of a fresh graduate with a master's degree, including bonuses, is around 200,000 RMB , which is far less competitive than industries such as the Internet and finance. However, domestic peers generally recognize the background of a large company , which is helpful for job hopping.

At the same time, the FAB needs to run 24 hours a day, and overtime is the norm. As long as you are willing to work hard at TSMC, you can still earn two or three years' worth of money in one year.

TSMC is well-known in Taiwan for its high labor intensity. For TSMC employees, high income also means high-intensity work. TSMC's management is very strict , and the work and life of the front-line production departments are not easy, which is also complained by many engineers.

Data shows that the average salary of TSMC employees in 2020 was about NT$1.81 million, or about RMB 419,000 . The core executives' salaries are even more astronomical. Among them, Liu Deyin and Wei Zhejia, who are co-CEOs, received salaries of NT$422 million last year, or about RMB 97.09 million , a year-on-year increase of 44%.

Taiwan's only semiconductor industry has salary support, but other aspects are still relatively miserable. I worked in a Taiwanese company 10 years ago. The boss thought the salary of mainland electricians was too high, so he sent young electricians from Taiwan twice. They left after working for half a year. Two others chose to study full-time in mainland China. They are currently working in Beijing. One even plans to become a mainland citizen.   Details Published on 2022-1-7 18:32

This income is not even comparable to the salary of domestic Internet giants.

High salaries are earned through overtime work, so work more overtime while you are young!!!

After hearing so much about the salaries of domestic IT giants, I was not surprised to see TSMC.

But the semiconductor industry is not a "young man's job".

They are in the semiconductor industry, and the ejector industry, so they can probably do this for a lifetime. It is a very happy thing to be able to do a good job in an industry and have a good income!
