Xiaomi phones are going to use liquid lenses? What kind of black technology is liquid lens? Are you looking forward to it? [Copy link]

Xiaomi’s official Weibo account announced a major news, that is, after two years, the new Xiaomi MIX is back with a bang, and it will live up to the expectations of hundreds of millions of users with its endless technological strength.

According to official sources, the new Xiaomi MIX will be the world's first liquid lens. The details are as follows:

Liquid lenses use the bionics of the human eye and use a lens-like structure to replace traditional optical lenses. The transparent fluid wrapped in a thin film, driven by a high-precision motor and Xiaomi's self-developed technology, can accurately and finely change the spherical shape, thereby achieving fast and smooth focusing.

This optical fluid also has the characteristics of high transmittance, ultra-low dispersion and excellent resistance to extreme environments, which can ensure stable and long-lasting optical performance.

The innovative liquid lens achieves the coexistence of macro and telephoto, which is another revolutionary breakthrough in the development of mobile phone imaging and has two specific advantages.

First of all, the volume is smaller. The fine surface changes of the liquid lens after being subjected to force can quickly determine the focus, which can greatly reduce the thickness of the telephoto macro functional module.

Next is faster focusing. Because it uses the bionic principles of the human eye, the deformation speed of the liquid lens is much faster than the mechanical control of the traditional optical lens, so the focusing speed can be greatly improved.

Officials said that each new generation of MIX phones is accompanied by cutting-edge technological breakthroughs, and the new liquid lens technology is bound to become the future development direction of mobile phone imaging.

I wonder what the photos taken with the liquid lens will look like. Are you looking forward to this black technology of Xiaomi mobile phone?

Mobile phone photography is for convenience, so don’t expect too much from the quality of the photos.

In theory, this technology can greatly reduce the number of lenses in the lens, which is beneficial to reducing the cost and size of the lens, and is also beneficial to improving the focusing speed, but it has nothing to do with the image quality. In fact, due to the reduction in the number of lenses, there is no room for compensation using materials and forms, and the aberration, chromatic aberration index, and the consistency of center and edge resolution are likely to decrease. If lenses are used for compensation, this technology will be at a disadvantage in terms of cost, and the only benefits left are the reduction of lens length and the increase of focusing speed, which will not be worth the loss.

However, this technology is the future direction of conventional photographic equipment. I wrote about this in a post on a photography forum 20 years ago. A single lens focusing by deformation combined with a curved imaging sensor (curved surfaces can compensate for the aberration and chromatic aberration caused by a single lens) will be the standard for conventional photographic equipment in the future. Traditional multi-lens lenses will inevitably retreat to the small circle of professional photography.

However, this technology is the technical development direction of conventional photographic equipment in the future. I have specifically discussed this in a post on a photography forum as early as 20 years ago. A single-lens lens that relies on deformation to focus, combined with a curved imaging sensor (the curved surface can compensate for the aberration and chromatic aberration caused by a single lens), will be the standard configuration of conventional photographic equipment in the future. Traditional multi-lens lenses will inevitably retreat to the small circle of professional photography.
