As an engineer, what gives you the greatest sense of accomplishment? [Copy link]

I saw a short story on Zhihu, it's quite interesting, share it with you:
Author: The Wind After the Rain

I remember a true story. A buddy and colleague of mine went on a blind date. After they hit it off, they went to meet the girl's parents. When they got home, there was a large group of people, including the girl's relatives. Then they started with the usual household registration and asked about the buddy's daily work content. The buddy said: "Maintaining the normal operation of the locomotive, and immediately handling any faults..." Before the buddy finished speaking, the girl's aunt summed it up by saying "Repairman, oh~ huh?"

Why do I talk about this? I just want to tell you that I am just an ordinary service engineer (electric locomotive repairman). Looking back on the work in the past few years, I really haven't achieved anything great. I just stay in the locomotive depot day and night (far away from home), inspect the locomotive when there is no problem, and immediately deal with the problem when there is a problem. It's just that the work location is a bit remote (in the wilderness), the working environment is a bit poor (the air temperature inside the locomotive can reach more than 50 degrees in summer), the working hours are a bit unconventional (responding at any time 24 hours a day), and the continuous working time is a bit long (I have been on the locomotive for more than 10 hours).

Taken at Xiangtang Locomotive Depot, the locomotives in the depot are waiting for us to inspect them.

Taken at Hangzhou Locomotive Depot, at 4:20 in the morning, when the crew returned, the locomotive depot was brightly lit.

My colleagues are repairing locomotive parts. We are a group of people with the spirit of craftsmanship . The quality of our products will absolutely reassure our customers (the parts are coded).

Assisting customers in finding faults on locomotives is our strong point. We can help customers solve any difficult problems that they cannot solve.

Let's get to the point (lest someone say I'm off topic again). I've been doing motorcycle service for so many years. Although I've left my hometown and am willing to be lonely, although the work is hard and I often work overtime, although sometimes I try my best but still can't get the understanding of customers. But if you ask what is the most fulfilling thing for a service engineer, of course it is to gain the trust of customers . Customer satisfaction is the greatest affirmation for us . The quality of the locomotives we have repaired is great, the failure rate is low, our service response speed is fast, and we solve failures even faster... Providing customers with the best quality service and satisfying them is probably the source of our sense of accomplishment.

As an engineer, where does your greatest sense of accomplishment come from? Welcome to leave a message and discuss.

I don't have much sense of accomplishment in my life. Nothing I do goes well. Luck has never been on my side. The bad people I meet have one more 0 than the good people. Sometimes I think this is my fate.   Details Published on 2019-12-8 11:43

The greatest achievement is to be able to keep a wife and children warm and cozy for a long time

The topics that Brother Nan chooses are always so straight to the point

I don't feel any sense of accomplishment at the moment. I'll be thankful if the software I wrote doesn't have any bugs.
