Unshielded twisted pair (UTP), such as Category 5e (Cat-5e), was originally designed primarily for local area network (LAN) transmission, but has become a popular choice for many other signal transmissions due to its good performance and lower cost. Economical solution for your application.
At present, analog wideband video signals mainly include RGB signals and high-definition component video signals (YPbPr). These signals will suffer from signal quality degradation when transmitted over long distances using standard four differential pair UTP transmission lines. On the one hand, it is the nonlinear bandwidth limitation caused by the "skin effect" of transmission, which leads to signal dispersion and loss of high-frequency components of the signal. This will reduce the sharpness of the image and cause smearing. Additionally, low-frequency signal attenuation due to cable impedance losses can reduce image contrast. In addition, due to the inconsistent twist rate of the twisted pairs, the length of the transmission lines of the three differential pairs will be different, which will cause the delay of the three received signals to be inconsistent, causing color errors in the image.
In order to solve the above problems, ADI has proposed a reference design of an automatic compensation system based on UTP video transmission, which can automatically perform EQ compensation and Skew compensation to address these problems. This solution can support UTP (Cat-5e) line transmission up to 300 meters, and can support up to high-definition 1080P or UXGA video formats.
