According to news on September 12, Qualcomm gave a positive response to the matter of continuing to supply basebands to Apple.
Qualcomm said today that by 2026, it is expected to only provide 20% of the overall 5G Modems Apple needs. This means that Qualcomm still expects business from Apple to eventually decline.
In addition to 5G Modem, Qualcomm also makes profits from Apple through cellular licensing fees. UBS expects Qualcomm's cellular licensing fees to be approximately US$1.9 billion in 2022.
How important is Apple to Qualcomm? In the third fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2023 as of the end of June this year, Qualcomm’s mobile phone business had sales of US$5.26 billion. In fiscal year 2022, Qualcomm’s total revenue was US$44.2 billion, of which approximately 21% came from Apple.
In addition to Qualcomm Modem chips, Apple is also preparing to abandon a WiFi and Bluetooth chip from Broadcom.
