In order to make the iPhone 15 series have better battery life, Apple is expected to introduce durable laminated batteries. The latest news shows that the iPhone 15 will use "laminated batteries" to reduce heat and extend the overall battery life. Advances in battery technology usually allow devices to have more available power, as well as other improvements.

What is a laminated battery? A laminated battery is a special method of producing a battery cell, or at least a method of assembling and packaging battery components. The battery consists of a positive electrode and a negative electrode in the form of a long strip.

In typical battery cells, these cells go through a "winding" process before packaging. Laminated cells use components and separators, but fold them into zigzag layers instead of rolling them into zigzag layers, which is called lamination.

By using folded layers instead of rolls, the packaged battery wastes less space than wound cells and therefore contains more material and a higher capacity.

The layered structure also means the battery operates as a multi-pole cell, rather than a single-pole wound cell. This makes the battery itself less resistive, so it generates less heat when charging or discharging.

Heat is generated more evenly throughout the battery, rather than concentrated in one area. Spreading the heat throughout the battery means it doesn't wear out as quickly as a wrapped battery, extending the life of the battery.

The stacked batteries are also able to charge and discharge at higher rates. This means devices can be charged faster, while also potentially allowing those devices to draw more power from the battery when needed.

While it’s a relatively new technology used in smartphones, the technology has shown some promise in another area. It’s often used to make batteries for electric cars, which benefit from higher density because they need to draw a lot of power and charge it as quickly as possible.
