Samsung Electronics maintained its leading position in the European smartphone market in 2021, but it faced more intense competition from Apple in the United States and Xiaomi in China, losing its lead in the monthly sales rankings four times.
According to businesskorea, data from market research firm Counterpoint Research showed that Samsung Electronics maintained its top position in the European smartphone market with a 32% market share, up 6% from the same period last year.
Next are Apple (26%), Xiaomi (20%), OPPO (8%), Realme (2%) and vivo (1%). Compared with 2020, Apple's market share increased by 4%, Xiaomi increased by 6%, OPPO increased by 3%, and Realme increased by 1%.
The report pointed out that competition among smartphone manufacturers intensified in 2021, and the "monthly champion" changed four times. In January 2021, Apple ranked first with a 34% market share due to the release of the first 5G iPhone; Samsung Electronics regained the top spot in February with the newly released Galaxy S21 and maintained its leading position for several months; but Xiaomi took the top spot in June; in July, Samsung regained the first place and maintained its lead until it was replaced by Apple in November; Apple still topped the list in December.
