Compared with the other two platforms, the Xbox platform has the highest backward compatibility, and even the earliest Xbox games can be played on the new generation of Xbox Series consoles. According to the latest patent information, Sony PS seems to be working hard in this regard, and there may be hope to bring classic games such as PS2 and PS3 to PS5 through backward compatibility.
According to a registered patent published recently, the applicant is Mark Cerny (hardware architect of PS4 and PS5), and the patent is titled "Achieving backward compatibility by using cheating clocks and fine-grained frequencies."
In other words, the Sony PS team is developing backward compatibility technology. Although the patent does not explicitly mention any previous Sony PS game platform, perhaps this technology is to be able to play old PS, PS2 and PS3 games on PS5 and PS4.
