Earlier news said that BOE is supplying 6.1-inch display panels for iPhone 12, both for new and refurbished phones. At the same time, in September this year, it obtained conditional permission from Apple and began shipping 6.1-inch OLEDs required for iPhone 13.
In the latest research report from research firm UBI Research, CEO Choong Hoon Yi said that BOE is converting its three sixth-generation flexible OLED factories (B7, B11 and B12) to produce panels for Apple, including upgrading from LTPS TFT to LTPO TFT, which will enable it to replace LG by 2023 and become the second largest OLED screen supplier for the iPhone, second only to Samsung.
It is said that BOE's B12 production line in Chongqing has achieved the first phase of production. After the full production line is fully operational as early as the fourth quarter of next year, BOE's sixth-generation OLED substrates (1500x1850mm, which can only be produced as a single display screen after cutting) will have a total monthly production capacity of 144,000 pieces, surpassing Samsung (140,000/month) to rank first in the world.
In comparison, LG's monthly production is currently only 30,000 pieces, and it is currently working towards the goal of 45,000 pieces per month.
In terms of supply volume, Choong Hoon Yi pointed out that this year BOE will be able to supply 15 million OLEDs for iPhone 12 and 3 million for iPhone 13, accounting for about 10% of the total OLED iPhone shipments this year. For LG, since Apple is the only customer of its sixth-generation flexible OLED, its future prospects face challenges after being overtaken by BOE.
