TV LCD panel prices plummeted in August and may continue to fall until the end of the year

 The price of LCD panels for TVs plummeted in August, highlighting the slowdown in TV sales on the demand side and the oversupply of panel manufacturers on the supply side. It is expected that TV manufacturers will have more bargaining power in the future, and panel prices may continue to fall by the end of this year.

According to Nikkei News, based on the August prices agreed upon by panel manufacturers in mainland China, Taiwan and South Korea and TV manufacturers, the benchmark 32-inch Open cell issue price fell 15% from July to around US$75 per piece, marking the second consecutive month of decline; the 55-inch also fell 8% from July to US$210 per piece, the first drop in 15 months.

It is understood that the market had previously expected that the prices of large-size panels above 55 inches would fall in August and September, but Xie Qinyi, senior research director of market research firm Omdia, believes that the decline will exceed expectations.

The report pointed out that TV manufacturers may have a more advantageous position in price negotiations with panel manufacturers in the future. Japanese brokerages pointed out that panel prices may continue to fall before the end of the year. It should be pointed out that if panel prices fall, TV retail prices will also lose strong support.
