According to foreign media XDA, the name of Qualcomm's next-generation wearable device SoC appeared in the Android code, and the name is expected to be Snapdragon Wear 5100. Just before that, Qualcomm confirmed that it plans to develop the next-generation wearable device chip.
Last week, Qualcomm uploaded new code to the Code Aurora forum, with the ID "LAW.UM.2.0-00700-SW5100.0" and the code name "monaco". Foreign media explained that the full name of "LAW" means "Linux Android Wear" and "UM" may mean "Unified Modem".
The platform is developed on top of Linux Kernel 5.4, but it is not known which Android version it is based on. The API level in the configuration file is 29, which means it is based on Android 10. Since Google has officially announced that it will launch the Wear OS 3 system, the system is not expected to be based on Android 11.
IT Home learned that Qualcomm's latest wearable platform SoC model is Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which is confirmed to support Wear OS 3. Therefore, it is expected that when the next-generation Snapdragon Wear 5100 chip is released, it will also support the new system.
By analyzing historical records and configuration files, foreign media determined that the "monaco" chip is based on Qualcomm's existing "bengal" platform. The processors to this platform also include Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and 460. The existing Snapdragon Wear 4100 chip contains 4 Cortex-A53 small cores, and the next-generation Snapdragon Wear 5100 chip is expected to contain a Cortex-A73 large core + 3 A53 small cores.
