Google may be developing its own "Find My" network, and a beta version of Google Play Services for Android suggests that these smartphones can be used to track other devices in a similar way to Apple's main feature.

The Find My network is designed to make lost items possible to be found by taking advantage of the massive usage of iPhones, and it looks like Google may be coming up with its own alternative.

On Thursday, an APK dig into the beta version 21.24.13 of Google Play Services revealed text strings for "Find My Device Network." As spotted by XDA Developers, a second string indicates a feature that "allows your phone to help locate you and other people's devices."

Google currently offers a relocation service for Android users using its Find My Device app, but it's slightly more limited than Apple's version. The Android app can only be used to access devices logged into a user's Google account, not to locate a passing device.

It seems that Android's feature could work similarly to Apple's service, as passing devices could send out pings to users reporting lost hardware. However, while Apple can use Ultra Wideband to find it, Google's version would likely have to rely on Bluetooth, which could affect the accuracy of the service.
