According to an analysis of fourth-quarter sales, users who purchase iPhones tend to buy models with higher storage capacity than their Android counterparts, and this gap may widen with the introduction of the 1TB model in the iPhone 13.
The latest report shows that Apple has retained higher NAND flash density in its devices than its Android counterparts, and over time users have chosen larger storage capacities in their iPhones. However, the company believes that the high average relative to Android is decreasing because Apple has limited the iPhone 12 to a maximum of 512GB and because Android vendors are adding more storage space to their devices.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, the average storage capacity of the iPhone was 141GB, putting it in second place behind Huawei's 150GB. Apple is still far ahead of OPPO, Honor and vivo with 122, 115 and 108GB, while Samsung ranks sixth with 95GB.
A new note from Wedbush analysts Strecker Backe and Daniel Ives suggests that all iPhone 13 models, including the lower-priced iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13, will be configurable with up to 1TB of internal storage.
This would be the first time Apple would offer customers the option to purchase 1TB of storage. The two analysts also claim that all iPhone 13 models will be equipped with a LiDAR camera.
However, Barclays analyst Andrew Gardiner commented that only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be equipped with lidar scanners, while Front Page Tech said that the above versions will be upgraded to 1TB of storage space, but the iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini will not.
Additionally, the iPhone 13 mini or iPhone 13 may not be equipped with a faster 120Hz LTPO OLED screen, which is reserved for higher-end models.
As for the price that everyone is concerned about, it is foreseeable that if all iPhone 13 models are equipped with a 1TB version, then the price increase is inevitable, and the most expensive one may approach or exceed 15,000.
