Music streaming giant Spotify is best known for its software-driven streaming business, but the company has long planned to launch related hardware.
The first piece of hardware the company will release is an in-car entertainment system called Car Thing. Spotify's product appeared in some Apple iOS code earlier this month and was even first tested as early as 2019, but was not released.
The company has now taken the wraps off the device, at least for the US market, and it's aimed at Spotify Premium subscribers.
The product is equipped with a touch screen, which should be an LCD panel. There is also a large knob for navigation. It has four buttons on the top for activating favorite music, podcasts, and playlists. Users can change the buttons as needed.
The smart device is also equipped with voice control capabilities, and Car Thing is designed for cars that don't have modern in-vehicle infotainment systems such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto installed.
The Spotify Car Thing will retail for $80, but the company hasn't confirmed when it will be available.
