Spigen's sub-brand Cyrill has launched a leather case accessory for Apple's long-rumored AirTags, which has been listed for pre-sale online, with a delivery date of "late October". The store listing discovered by iMore is a mobile phone case accessory called "Basic Leather - Black", which is said to be prepared for Apple AirTag. Amazon has also added a list of alternative colors for the same product.
The accessory is priced at $19.99, and the page lists some product features, including a stylish and elegant solid leather strap box, a perfect minimalist accessory, a secure button to hold your AirTag, making your AirTag more secure. Hang AirTag on bags, keys, wallets, and handbags with a stylish gold clip, compatible with wireless charging.
The most interesting tidbit is the mention of wireless charging for AirTags. This supports previous suggestions that AirTags might charge wirelessly or even on the back of the iPhone, rather than using replaceable CR2032 batteries. However, "AirTags 2020" on the product page is an obvious mistake, as the product is not yet released in early 2021. However, this may show that Apple originally planned to launch AirTags in 2020, and now the latest rumors indicate that Apple will launch AirTags in March 2021.
While it's hard to learn much new about the AirTags design from the product accessory listing, the images seem to fit with previous rumors that the AirTags will have a slim disc-shaped design with a white front. The leather part of the accessory also seems to be very similar to the images of the AirTag keychain accessory that were allegedly designed by Apple that leaked last year.
This isn’t the first time third-party AirTags accessories have been exposed. Earlier this month, images of Nomad’s AirTags keychain and AirTags glasses frame accessories leaked online. Apple generally doesn’t provide product specifications or details to accessory manufacturers before release, so the product renderings produced by Spigen and Nomad are more likely based on rumors and do not represent the final design of AirTags.
AirTags are expected to work similarly to other item trackers such as Tile, where users can attach them to various items such as cameras, wallets, keys, glasses, etc. so that they can find them when they are misplaced. It is rumored that AirTags will have a built-in U1 ultra-wideband chip to obtain accurate indoor positioning information and can also realize augmented reality-based tracking functions.
There have been signs of AirTags since iOS 13, but despite numerous rumors suggesting that Apple will launch them in 2020, the elusive product has yet to show up. Earlier this month, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple will release AirTags at some point in 2021, though he did not provide more specific information.
