Jiwei.com reported on January 12 that in May 2020, Huawei submitted a high-end smartphone design patent in China, which uses an under-screen camera and a rear zoom quad-camera design. On January 12, 2021, the State Intellectual Property Office officially announced the patent to the outside world, with 7 sketches and 2 color renderings attached.
LetsGoDigital made a rendering of the design based on the patent drawing. From the rendering, the patent design has ultra-narrow four-sided borders on the front, and the top edge can display interesting information such as time, power, dual-SIM network signal strength, etc. With such a unique design, the main screen can be used to display more content. The opening position of the front camera is not drawn in the rendering, and it is expected that this concept phone will adopt an under-screen front camera solution.
The patent shows that the phone adopts a hyperbolic design, which makes the body look very thin and light. The metal frame is continuous at the four corners to help prevent damage when it falls. The square quad-camera module is arranged in the center of the upper back, and the flash is located at the lower left of the lens. From the side, the module has a clear bulge, which may be equipped with a high-magnification zoom lens.
Huawei's patented design uses a zoom quad-camera module on the back, focusing on imaging functions. The upcoming Huawei P50 series may adopt this design. However, according to a digital blogger, under-screen cameras will only be mass-produced on a small scale in the first half of this year, and will only be launched in large quantities in the second half of the year. This design may also be used in the Mate 50 series.
