So few people care about Android 11 this year.

Indeed, compared with iOS 14, Android 11 as a new system is not discussed much on social media such as Weibo. This is because iOS 14 has a big change in appearance and provides novel features such as ProRaw. It is also because the Android system upgrade is relatively more fragmented and the upgrade rate is not as high as iOS.

Not long ago, Apple announced the update data of the iOS 14 system. Three months after its release, the market share of the new system reached 72%. Among the iPhones released in the past four years, the market share of iOS 14 has reached 81%. On the Android side, it is still waiting for various mobile phone manufacturers to adapt to Android 11 before gradually releasing updates.

Google has also been trying to find a way to solve this problem. Recently, it joined hands with Qualcomm to announce that it will start cooperation starting from the Snapdragon 888 chip, and jointly undertake part of the upgrade and adaptation work, so that mobile phones equipped with Qualcomm chips can support 4 years of Android system updates and security updates, and increase the update speed.

So why do both Google and Apple want you to use the new phone operating system?

It is product competitiveness and also a cash cow

In the past, when we talked about Android and iOS systems, most of the topics were about which one was better, and the main arguments were based on their respective functional features. Of course, the process would definitely involve iPhones and Android phones. After all, software and hardware are often inseparable.

From this point, we can see that the system is actually part of the product strength of the mobile phone. Both Google and Apple hope to increase product strength through new functions added by the new system, prompting users to continue to purchase their products or stay in their own ecosystem.

Although the two companies have had some similarities in some functions in recent years, such as the desktop widgets introduced in iOS 14 were criticized for being too similar to Android's previous functions, the differences between the two are still significant. No matter how open the iOS system is, it is still more closed than Android, which is one of the reasons why users choose Android or iOS.

Even if the market share of Android and iOS gradually solidifies, it is still very important to continue to retain users, and this value will be realized in the system ecosystem.

Nowadays, whether it is Apple or Android phone manufacturers, selling mobile phones is no longer just about buying hardware, but also selling services. Google accounts, Gmail, Google search, etc. make up the Google ecosystem global bucket, and a large part of the users are attracted by Android users.

By adding features, users can stay in the Google ecosystem, which not only increases the number of users of Google products, but also enables better monetization of advertising businesses in products such as Google Search and YouTube.

On the other hand, many new services are also "pre-installed" on mobile phones through system upgrades. The new service Fitness+ added by Apple in iOS 14.3 this month is the most typical case.

As a subscription service, Fitness+ obviously needs enough users to pay to make a profit, and the pre-installation of Apple's iOS 14.3 system has achieved an extremely rapid promotion. Cities and regions such as the United States and the United Kingdom are the first to go online. After iPhone users upgrade to the new system, the Fitness+ software will be automatically loaded on their phones.

Considering the update rate of iOS 14, the scope of this promotion is also extremely wide. Some users have previously complained that domestic Android manufacturers pre-installed third-party applications on mobile phones to earn revenue, but they did not know that the largest pre-installation service providers are the controllers of the two mobile operating systems, Google and Apple.

Of course, like Apple and Google, domestic mobile phone manufacturers also hope that users will upgrade to the new system as soon as possible. Unlike previous Android phones that tended to be sold one at a time, domestic Android phone manufacturers are now also earning revenue through services.

Huawei, OPPO, vivo and other mobile phone manufacturers all obtain commission income from props sales through game channel services. The browser push notifications that come with the mobile phone also include some advertisements. This part of the income also requires users to continue to stay in the ecosystem and continue to purchase the next mobile phone.

The new functions of the new system are also one of the differences in the products created by domestic mobile phone manufacturers. This year, domestic mobile phone manufacturers have made innovations in the design of their own mobile phone systems in order to attract consumers.
