According to Taiwanese media reports, TSMC is expanding its 5-nanometer production capacity, and the third phase of Fab18 will begin mass production in the first quarter of next year. By then, the 5-nanometer production capacity is expected to exceed 90,000 12-inch wafers per month.
At present, the news has not been confirmed by TSMC. TSMC emphasized that the 5nm process has been mass-produced in the first half of this year. It will not disclose the mass production status and progress of individual factories to the public, nor will it disclose the monthly production capacity of a specific process.
According to previous plans, the second phase of TSMC's Fab18 plant has successfully entered mass production this year, and the third phase of the plant is expected to enter mass production in 2021. When the total production capacity of the three phases is fully opened, it is estimated that more than 1 million 12-inch wafers can be produced in 2022.
It has also been reported that TSMC expects shipments of 5-nanometer process wafers to increase by 20% month-on-month in the first half of next year.
