The integrated circuit industry has faced both internal and external troubles this year, but it has still made outstanding contributions to maintaining employment. Not only have start-up companies sprung up like mushrooms after rain, creating more job opportunities, but established listed companies have also been able to develop steadily and ensure employment.

Jiwei.com compiled public information from 120 Chinese chip listed companies and made a brief analysis of the semiconductor industry and the total number of employees in each company.

As of now, the total number of employees of China's listed chip companies is 370,700, of which 191,000 are production personnel, accounting for 51.52%; 95,100 are technical personnel, accounting for 25.65%; 20,400 are sales personnel, accounting for 5.49%; 45,300 are other personnel, accounting for 12.21%; in addition, there are 75,900 R&D personnel, accounting for 20.48%.

Among the 120 listed companies, 10 companies have more than 10,000 employees, of which Changdian Technology, Wingtech Technology and MLS rank in the top three with 23,017, 22,467 and 21,687 respectively. The other top ten companies are Huatian Technology, Ninestar, USI, SMIC, Tongfang, Tongfu Microelectronics and Sanan Optoelectronics. The total number of employees of these 10 companies is 178,368, accounting for 48.12% of the total number of listed companies in the entire semiconductor industry.

The average number of employees in the 120 listed companies was 3,089.2, including 1,872.3 production staff, 805.9 technical staff, 171.2 sales staff, and 377.2 other staff.

In terms of sub-sectors, the average number of employees in the design sector is 1,817.4, in the manufacturing sector is 11,839.8, in the packaging and testing sector is 10,894.3, in the equipment sector is 1,350.5, in the materials sector is 1,423.1, in the electronic components sector is 3,783.9, in the IDM sector is 4,638.3, and in the distribution sector is 1,023.5. Among them, the average number of employees in the manufacturing and packaging and testing sectors is the largest, exceeding 10,000, while the number of employees in the design, equipment, materials, and distribution sectors is around 1,000.

The companies with the largest number of employees in each sub-segment are Nasdaq (design) with 18,993 people, USI (manufacturing) with 18,648 people, Changdian Technology (packaging and testing) with 23,017 people, NAURA (equipment) with 4,643 people, Zhonghuan Semiconductor (materials) with 9,395 people, Sanhuan Group (electronic components) with 7,001 people, Wingtech Technology (IDM) with 22,467 people, and Shenzhen Huaqiang (distribution) with 1,887 people.

In terms of the proportion of R&D personnel, the total proportion of the entire industry is 20.48%. The top ten companies in terms of the proportion of R&D personnel are Goodix Technology, VeriSilicon Technology, Fudan Microelectronics, Broadcom Integrated Circuit, SinoWay, Cambrian, Amlogic Technology, Ingenic, Rockchip and Allwinner Technology.

In the sub-sectors, the proportion of R&D personnel in the design and equipment fields is the highest, exceeding 30%, IDM R&D personnel account for 21.05%, packaging and testing R&D personnel account for 18.26%, and other fields account for about 15%. (Proofread by Humphrey)
