In the past two years, the screen performance of the iPhone has not achieved any major breakthroughs. It has only improved the maximum brightness and other basic parameters based on the OLED screen. The high refresh rate function that other competitors have actively embraced has not yet appeared on the iPhone.
But according to the latest news from Korean media, among the four iPhone 13 models next year, two higher-end models will be equipped with low-power LTPO technology OLED screens and will also support 120Hz high refresh rate function.
The report also stated that Samsung and LG will continue to supply most of the screens for the new phone, with Samsung supplying OLED panels for about 140 million iPhones, LG Display is expected to provide its OLED panels for about 30 million iPhones, and BOE is expected to take the remaining 10 million.
According to public information, LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) is a substrate for OLED display panels that is different from the current LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon). By adding an extra layer of oxide, the energy consumption required to excite pixels is reduced, thereby reducing the power consumption when the screen is displayed. At the same time, considering that the screen is one of the most power-consuming components of a mobile phone, the use of an OLED screen based on an LTPO TFT substrate will inevitably further extend the battery life of the iPhone, which will provide the basic conditions for the high refresh rate function.
